Recently acquired new chrome stockies for my Notch.  Going sleeper look.  4.5" fronts/5.5" rear.  I cant seem to tuck any tire size in rear with the exception of 165s or smaller.  Would like to go 195 or 205, but they touch the fender.  I dont want to shorten the axles, so I'm thinkin' if I could increase the backset of the rims by 1.5" I'd be good.

Does anyone know of a shop that could split them, reweld them, true them and send them back to me?

Thanks

I hate to say it, but I had a very bad experience with Stockton wheels. They basically ruined some aluminum wheels they were support to check for being straight. Instead, I got them back full of chisel dings.... and they charged me for their service. Never again.

Really? I have always heard very good things about Stockton. I have not had any dealings with them in several years, maybe things have gone down hill since then.

I personally have used stockton wheel on two different occasions. they have done exactly as ordered both times with quality work. You pay for it, but i have had good experience with them. your call man!

Weldcraft Wheels in Plymouth, Mich., if you aren't having any luck elsewhere.  There phone # is
734-420 2211.  They will cut the center out and position it in or out if material allows.  They can also split and move if need be.

They are were in the City of Industry when I used them about 1yrs ago.  Stockton Wheel is real close to me, about 25 miles away. They wouldn't touch a set of aluminum wheels when I asked, and didn't do such a great job straightening a couple of steel wheels either... "your mileage may vary"

You might try Pete Paulson Wheel in French Camp or Willits, CA, he specializes in steel wheels.

Interesting. The last I heard, they were in Fontana, not too far away from the Speedway. I've had a few set of 4-lug Sprint Stars redone there and I've been very happy with their work. I get them done through a friend, so I don't deal with them directly.

They only do steel wheels, but the original poster has a set of chromies, so that's not a problem.

On custom wheel mods, for exotic mags or alloys, try Eric Vaughan in Monrovia... 626-358-6413. He's the best ($), and expect a wait. He is in high demand for his talents.

I know a guy who wanted a set of stock SunBug wheels chromed for his 79 convert.  He sent the wheels to Stockton Wheel where they cut the centers out for him.  He had them chromed then sent them back to Stockton Wheel to get them to weld the centers back in.  They looked pretty good, but when I walked around I noticed the offset was very different on all 4 wheels.  None were even close.  I'm talking at least an inch different.  No need to ever go to them, IMO.

Even though we're talkin' steelies, I second that for Eric @ RealWheels. If you need alum done, he does top notch work. Expensive? you bet! Fast turnaround? Not. but the work is serious quality.

Someone gave me a # to "Wheels of Steel" somewhere out there in 559 area code.   They said they could do it for me for $55 ea. wheel, which seems more than reasonable.  Does anyone have exprience with them?  Dont want to send them across the country to get a hack job.

Does anyone know a place in the Midwest?

I saw the post above for Plymouth, Michigan.  Any other recommendations?
