Hi Guys,

Happy New Year !

I'm seriously thinking about upgrading my 2110 engine with IDAs and use them with DRD L6 heads I'd buy at aircooled.net and a web 86b cam.

So far I'm using CB offset manifolds with 45 DRLAs and I need to use 3 1/4" air cleaners in order to be able to close the decklid.

I want to keep my thing fanshroud  and use air cleaners as it is a street car (not IGT type ones but k&N preferably).

Looking for a short type manifold I came accross 2 :

- Gene Berg 587 but they seem really short and not the best in terms of cfm ;
- Udo Beckers as seen on this website : http://www.vwparts.net/CSP129712148.html (actually they are not CSP products)

What do you think of the second ones in terms of fitment, performance and so on?

I'd rather use a pair of Gene Berg 590 but I guess I'd have some clearance issues Huh Huh

Thanks

Phil

Why do you say the Berg manifolds are not the best in terms of cfm?

Generally speaking, with IDAs, short manifolds are not the best, the shorter the more tortured is the mixture's way to the heads because of the sharp curves. I just read the Berg 587 are 4 3/8" tall, Udo Beckers are 5 1/2" tall, it is therefore obvious that Bergs 587s have sharper curves..

I think the cfm rates depend on the porting work... . May be you need no welding on mine to get bigger ports. Length is as seen on the picture (125mm) . Clearance to fan is a little more than the Berg's.

I have Scat short manifolds with Ramflo aricleaners and they clear a Thing shroud. I had to make a small notch on the right hand side of the shroud to clear a small interferance with the IDA carb but other than that there is room.
