I am about to take my tranny to my trans guy (Steve Sands at Proflow Performance) for him to fix it for me.
I broke it this past March at the track. Launched the car and it spun some and then got traction and pop! I don't know exactly what I broke. I still can halfway drive it but you have to hold it in 1st and 2nd to keep it in gear and 3rd/4th works just fine. So, with that being said that should eliminate the R&P, super diff etc.

Anyway, while he is in there fixing this thing I thought about going ahead and beefing her up even more. I wanted to get your opinions on what you would change based on the amount of HP I have and how I drive.
The motor is a 2332cc with 10:1compression, out of box CB wedgeports, 86C cam, 1.4 rockers, dual 44idfs with 38vents, stage 1 clutch with stock solid center disk. made 166hp to rear wheels with the stinger.

Tranny currently has 4.12 Klinkenberg (ever how you spell it) R&P, Super beetle mainshaft, Super Diff, 1.37 erco 3rd, stock 4th, welded gears, HD side plate, swayway axles, chromoly pinion nut etc etc etc.

I drive this car to work on fair days (15miles one way) and go to the track 4 or 5 times a year. When I do go race I always run street tires and thats what I had when I broke the trans so I kind of want to upgrade incase I get the idea to run dot drag radials.
What should I change?? Thought of putting an erco or weddle mainshaft in it but don't know if thats my weak link or not.

Thanks,
Kevin

If the mainshaft is OK, I would upgrade to an 091 1st gear idler. That adds some strength to 1st gear.
With your application, that box should be fine to run for a long time.
Do you have an intermediate housing thrust plate sandwich between the nose cone and interm housing?
Is it an IRS box or Swing?

Tom,
It is a swingaxle. I do not have that thrust plate your talking about. What exactly is that and what does it do. Haven't heard of that before.
Any idea where I can get an 091 1st gear idler?

It's a thin steel plate going between the nose cone and inter housing, helps stop pinion moving forward and bearing chewing into soft housing, very cheap. $16 Aussie dollars. Weddle has the plates and 091 first conversion parts.

Actually, it stops the mainshaft from moving back and forth (not pinion).

Weddle, Rancho, Geno's Aircooled, etc.. to name a few that have the parts.

Finally got my tranny fixed. Come to find out the intermediate housing had some wear where the shift fork for 1st/2nd slides through. It was letting the fork move around and I guess when I launched and it allowed it to pop out of gear and when that happened something got out of adjustment somewhere. Tranny builder got me an intermediate housing that has bushings in it instead of the fork riding on the housing itself. Made for a much tighter fit. Also when he was setting up my 4.12 R&P he kept getting a tight spot and upon inspection he found a tiny stress crack in one of the teeth on the ring gear. Would've been ok until I launched and it was on that tooth. So I got another R&P. Then the pinion bearing fit loose in the tranny case so we found a 73model case that was in real good shape that the bearing fit properly in and put her all back together.
Hopefully this one will hold up for another 100 passes like the last tranny.

That is good news. Glad you got it working again. Must feel good.

I wish I knew more about these transmissions to rebuild one.  I had my last one built by Bill here in Arizona at Arizona Transaxle Exchange. He was really nice.

Good luck at the track!
