Currently building a 2276 for the strip.    head porter says head were built to run an fk89. erco triple spring   with titanium valves.  VW head  I think the limit on ercos is something like .625 lift.        with berg 1.45   my lift according to the dial indicator is .620     with the berg 1.54   lift = .646     so now i either have to switch out the cam    or buy real 1.4 rockers.   Huh     what cam or what rockers would you suggest.  I also tried a 2298 from cb performance which advertised .406 at the cam   but was similar to the fk89  around .416.

I ran into same problem with ERCO springs and Clay Smith cam.

I had the same problem. I set heads up in drill press, and had to check actual lift readings across all 8.

I had to juggle shims, and retainers, and trim the head slightly with a dual-spring tool. In the end, I had about .040" before coil bind.

Did you polish the three spring parts with emery cloth?

Check to see how close you are to coil bind. I have had no trouble setting up motors running .620 lift with the same combo.

I've done it.  But like Jim said...real close to coil bind.  May have to get the spring pockets cut or use plus 0.050 keepers.    The big question is - will it make more power..... ?

For the headaches I went through degreeing the Clay Smith cam, and then setting up springs, and then how noisy the ramps were, and then how badly that combo ran anyway, it sure wasn't for me.

Yep- I had ERCO modified Bugpacks, and like I posted above, they didn't lift.
I should have tried the Berg.

I had a similar problem so I had the valves set deeper in the seats. I think it was 30 in the seat and cut back the valve 10 for to make 40 more. Hope that helps.
