My buddy has a '70 Late model Notch with an autotranny. He was having trouble with the original autotranny. When he first got the car running, it would shift into 2nd and occasionally 3rd. After a few drives, it just wouldn't go passed 1st gear anymore. He changed out the fluid and nothing.

We decided to get another autotran section and mate it to his gearbox. At first, when the tranny was cold, it would shift into 2nd. After driving the car around the block a few times and couldn't build enough speed to shift into 3rd, we decided to go for a longer trip. Well it didn't make it passed 1st gear!

We couldn't get it to shift passed 1st again?? We figured it was because the tranny had warmed up??

NOTE: All the vacuum lines are good and don't leak. He is running a progressive carb tho?

I'm not savvy on autotrannys at all as far as adjustments or of that sort.

The 2nd autotran part we installed was from a bay van tranny and was working in the previous car. We even switched out its matching governor as well.

My question is... did we miss something or could it be the 2nd tranny had the same issues as the first? Both trannys have given us the same results, not getting passed 1st gear! I don't understand how it would shift before into the gears and stop doing so??

I'm posting this question in this forum because I've heard many hi-perf setups run autotrannys. Again, thanks for any help or suggestions.
