Deleting the title from the thread isn't going to resolve the issue. Garry, you did NOTHING wrong by starting this thread. I'm sure you didn't mean for all this to come up, but don't even sweat it dude-- not your doing. With as many people out there concerned about their money/parts, it was going to come up anyway. heard he was in buggy house and there was a death in the family  I dont know what to believe anymore Even still, no reason at this point not to contact someone. SOMEBODY out there has got to know whats up.  |

Im sure Matt will pull through for everyone.
Have a little compassion for the guy. Put yourself in his shoes and think about it for a minute. You gotta take care of number 1 sometimes and if the family is introuble well then i hate to say it.... screw everything else. Its just bad timing and always is when a problem arises. Give the guy a break and wait til you find out the real story before you go running at the mouth.

Sorry, but he's disappeared with what appears to be thousands upon thousands of dollars that isn't his. When you have that much money that doesn't belong to you, you sure as hell better be in touch with those customers. Looking out for #1 is not a 24/7 job. You can take a few minutes of each day to keep in touch. Especially when we're talking about the amount of money in this situation. Just ONE of these people has lost $6000. I don't know if I want to know the total of money 'lost'.
I ran into this same thing a few years ago when a certain head porter dissappeared with my heads and cash. I got this same BS from the forums telling me "there must be something going on" because it was a reputable business. Well, it was NOT. When I drove out of state and showed up at thier door step to get my parts, NOTHING was going on, they were just avoiding phone calls and sitting on thier asses. Low and behold, after a year and a half, I got my stuff finished within one hour. But through the whole thing, people were trying to make ME look like the A-hole for demanding some sort of communication with the people that had my money and parts.
There are real victims here, THEY are the ones that should be given the break around here.

Mike I don't think anyone here doesn't have compassion for him and he's family. Problem lies in he's a business owener and with that comes responsiblity, he needs to put some one in charge that can deal with these issues. He could do a mass email or put something up on his web page stating there are some family issues don't make a order unless you have time to wait or at the very least get on here and say something, but doing nothing just doesn't get it. I think the people here have showed great deal of understanding and compassion for him and his family by not taking legal action against him for this, I could be wrong but I thought any thing over 500 dollars was a federal offense which would mean a real nightmare for him. I'm not trying to be a a$$ here, people just want amswers. |

just my opinion here guys...
it's just kinda weird "part of the woodwork" isn't postin'...if he were my freind and I could reach him locally...I would wonder what's wrong...and get him to explain,but since I'm 3k away,or a little less...like most of the country...we can only go with what people are saying...it would be great if he could just chime in and save some of his digninty before he gets destroyed...but on the another side of the coin...what did we use to do before we had internet?...this just makes it easy to make this noticable...otherwise we would be on the phone 24/7 tryin' to get in touch with him...don't forget guys we're goin' on rumors of family and deaths etc..no facts...
hopefully nothin' stupid happened or he didn't do what I've been reading...that's just bad news for everyone,including him...
if I get sick,crash my supermoto...or whatever,you can bet your ass that I would have my wife or relitive contact anyone and everyone that I have or had business with,to give them a heads up with what's going on...I have their money and their cars...it's their right. and quite frankly,people respect you more when you put them ahead of your personal business (contacting,heads-up,et)and still treat the REAL business at hand...they tend to lend a listening ear and have a little more compassion...and usually end up being a little more understanding and/or lenient towards money and delivery etc...
what goes around comes around...

Well said, Tom. I think its the "not knowing" that is irritating people, and when their money is involved, people will eventually assume the worst. If you think about it logically, Matt is doing himself the injustice by not notifying anyone of the situation after this much time has past. How long are you guys supposed to give the benefit of the doubt? Its completely reasonable at this point, given the circumstances, to expect something done be it your money, your parts, or some information. |

I dont know what's going on, nor do i care to speculate along with the rest of the people doing it. Id say everyone needs to move on in their own way to resolve their OWN issues. (whatever course of action that may be) Ive let money slide with some flakes, and i've persued others until I got satisfaction, its all up to THAT PERSON to make the choice. If everyone else just wants to jump on for the sake of it, go ahead.

There are things called "Accountibility" and "Integrity". It is "reasonable service" to paying customers.  I have always been taught that a man will be measured by these things. I have seen neither with Matt. He had my parts for 11 months. He NEVER called me with updates-I ALWAYS called him.. everything was ALWAYS in front of my stuff getting done. All i know is that i am GRATEFUL for a few people that have helped rescue my $3000.00 worth of parts out of his shop. They are home and safe. The only thing i lost out of the deal was my intake manifolds, and a season of racing. If you read my past posts, i have tons of compassion for family and baby issues... Not even the issue. It is the lack of communication (as a business) lack of integrity, and accountibilty that is disappointing. Wishing the best for all of you that still have hostage parts and cash. I dont want to believe that Matt is an out-right crook but time passing is proving that he is. I'm sure there is more going on than anyone knows-and we all want to give him the benfit of the doubt. (i think) We are all standing at the fence calling for him... He has got to come over to the fence and/or send a respresentative to communnicate or this will remain a festering sore. Like Andrew said, you have got to take action for all of your own stuff man. It's every man for himself on this one... Hoping everything works out for all parties~ |

I feel that I can no longer keep my mouth shut about this situation. I will only comment on what I personally know and can prove. Here is my story.... you be the judge.
Several months ago, around February I enlisted the help of Matt Davis to redo my 65 bug. This is not something I take lightly. This car really does mean a lot to me and thus I wanted it entrusted to an individual that would not just cut and run nor do a crapty job.
The car was then moved to his friends house in Tracy. Body work started and I received emails weekly about the condition of the car. Kelly Park meet came and the 3 of us went. We walked and talked and everything seemed cool. I imagine by now you know where this is going.
So around June I decided that since I had not seen my car I wanted to get an update. So I emailed Matt and even called leaving a message. Nothing. A week went by.... nothing. Then another.... nothing.
So I decided to email the guy who was sending me the pictures. I get a cryptic email telling me to call him. I immediately do. Upon a length discussion it has come to light that Matt is no where to be found. The shop was locked up and no work was being done. I asked where my car was and was assured it was safe at Dave's house. I wanted to see the shop.
That Saturday I came by and saw with my own two eyes what was going on. Nothing. Dave has a full time job, like most of us. He could not come and check on things daily. We spent the next several hours cleaning shop. There was crap everywhere. Names on a white board and names in a book but nothing else. Parts all over the place but no idea where any of it went.
Then the next shoe dropped. The landlord called and said the back rent was due. Several thousands of dollars. This all came as a shock to Dave as he had been paying Matt for his half of the rent. Where was the money???
So Dave and I come up with a plan. Both of us love VW's and working on them. So we decide to do this on our own. Without anything from Matt. Currently a site is underdevelopment and will go live shortly.
So here are the facts.
1. 4k that was paid to Matt Davis directly never made it to Dave who actually did the work.
2. Evidence suggests and eye witness can attest that Matt had stayed at the shop overnight atleast once.
3. He owes another person in the complex 400 for an unpaid job.
4. I have not heard from him personally in several months.
5. I do not want anything to do with him!!!
6. He did not pay rent, power, or ATT for the duration of his stay.
Now we have done our best to get what parts we could into the hands of those they belonged to. Remember we are doing this out of pocket. We have seen no money from him. If I knew where he was I would tell you but I honestly have no idea.
I would suggest filing a claim with your Credit Card or with the city attorney to get any money owed back. We are trying to fix his mistakes but this takes time. I was shafted as much or even more than most of you. I can relate. We are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Thats what he means by "gone", before rumors of his being dead get going.  |

WOW! I was personal messaged by this guy a few years ago offering to build me a turbo set up for my car.
He seemed nice, but I did not know him from adam and declined his offer.
Even if he's having problems he should have had someone responding for him on his behalf if he even remotely cared about his customers.
Being able to repair something or put something together DOES NOT MAKE YOU A COMPETENT BUSINESS MAN!
I feel very bad for all you guys that goes hosed......
