I was thinking of trying one of the 10W60 oils available in my engine, anybody tried the Royal Purple, or Castrol? There is a German brand LubroMoly which also has that grade. BMW M cars take the Castrol TWS.

I used both castrol 10/60 and Millers CFS 10/60 while my car was in england, really liked how everything looked each teardown with them.
Just the price that was painfull!!!

I agree that hot running oil pressure never seems to be a problem, even with lower vis oils, but 10w60 is required for BMW M owners to keep their warranty and 911 owners say they get lower oil temps using it.
We were thinking this Lubro Moly 10w40 with MOS2 might be good for break in.

I also have a hard time thinking anyone needs 60wt oil.  I tried a variety of oil viscosities in my engine with nearly no effect on oil temps.

I run Lubromoly 5W40 synthetic (also have used European Castrol 5W40 synthetic) including during the engine break-in...and have for years.  With the value of our aftermarket parts, it's worth it IMO.

There are some interesting stories on various ACVW forums, of engines that lost oil pressure (in race Beetles), but suffered no engine damage, as the synthetic protected them until they realized that pressure was gone and shut down their engines.
