Swing trans weight

Does anyone know if a swing axle trans ( minus axles ) all boxed up can come in under 70 lbs.? If I remember the trans will be around 75 lbs + packing materials, but thought I would ask anyway.

 I just weighed my trans with out axles and it was 65 lbs.So you might be able to get it just under 70 lbs with packing.

If you have to ship it, go with FedEx Ground. I've used them to ship heavier Type 2 boxes without a problem (and for much less $$ than other big carriers). You can arrange for a pickup or just drop it off at any Fedex/Kinkos location (many of which are open late or 24x7).

Removing the nosecone makes it pretty easy to box up, and you can strap the trans to a couple of 2x4's and put it in a big Rubbermaid-style tub. Also, drilling holes through the the edges of the lid and box lip will allow you to zip tie the lid on, and makes for easy return shipping.

Whoever who use for shipping, be sure to insure the pkg accordingly.

Make sure you tell them there is no oil or fluids in the trans, otherwise they will try to say you are shipping hazardous materials. Wrap the entire trans in shrink wrap to make sure of no leakage.

Make sure that if you use FedEx you tell them the declaired value is worth more than the tranny will cost to replace.
I am going thru a bad deal with them right now where they lost my race engine case going from Fort Worth Tx to Longview Tx which is about a 3 hour drive one way.
Now they want to pay me 200 bucks for a case that would cost a lot more than that to replace.
Needless to say I am pissed.

Chuck if you are sending it to a major city and someone can go pick it up at the airport try www.forwardair.com.  They are very well priced you just have to be able to drop the shippment off at their hub and pick it up at their hub.
