SVDA Re-curving

Aircooled.net has their SVDA for a higher price than some of the vendors on thesamba. I emailed one of the vendors asking if he could re-curve one for dual Webers. He replied that the out of the box curve was most likely proper for my set-up. Knowing Aircooled's reputation, I'm sure they have some merit when it comes to VW know-how which makes me hesitant to buy from a SVDA vendor elsewhere.

Question: Is re-curving a distributor something that I can do to my distributor when I take possesion of it or should I leave it the pros?

Also, does anyone know if the out of the box SVDAs need re-curving for dual Webers?

The only way to get an accurate measurement of your curve is to use a distributor machine. Glenn Ring, John from Aircooled.net (and a few of the rest of us) have these old machines. I've never put one of John's SVDAs on my machine to plot the curve he uses (if I did ... I wouldn't publish the results), but I do know he knows what he is doing.

There's more to recurving a distributor than just having a machine. You have to know what you want the curve to be and what needs to be changed to get that curve.

I've never tested one of John's so I don't know what the curve is. I could get one, test it and take it apart to see what changes he made, but that would be no better than stealing from him.

I'm sure the one out of the box is not the same, just pay the extra money and support a vendor that supports the VW community.
