When I was a youngin, actually 17, I used to frequent the Buggy House in Hayward, CA...before I worked there. I used to deal with a guy there named Tony Mace, who took care of me like I was his little brother. Anyway, many years later....now he's got his own shop and he's a customer of mine (I sell import parts wholesale in Northern Calif). He called today for miscellaneous stuff....and we got to talking about this and that....and like usual we got on the subject of "the old days".....and old motors from days gone by. Tony built the 2332 in Pete Staat's "Pete's Dragon" '65 Bug back in the 80's (Super Flows, 3-piece ARPM case, 48IDAs, FK89...all in a street car). We got to talking about funny combinations we built. Tony had a 2180 back in the 80's with "some big Engle cam" and a single 48IDA, and an SPG roller. We laughed about  my first motor I built....a 1641, with an Engle VZ25, the old CB 044 heads (from the late 80's), and a single 36DRLA. Funny what you think works when you've had no better!!

Then we got to talking about "the sound of a 48 motor"....like Pete's old 2332. And my '67. Tony ended up wrenching at a shop down the street from BH (when I worked there), and I used to blast past his shop in my '67.....and he said "I always knew when you were coming down Mission Blvd......those carbs would be screaming."

I'd love to hear more from the guys from the old days and their old motors....
