I need 10, longer than stock lug bolts for my '67. An extra 3/4"-ish (20 mm-ish) will do, but I have some flexibility (+/-). Prefer non-chrome, but can alter it (if needed).

Any recommended sources?

Thanks, in advance.

Not sure if late model 4 lug bolts are the same, but here's a comparison of stock 4 bolt vs Porsche 914.

Glenn, the original wide 5 lug is 12mm, 4 lug were 14mm.
80s-90s Jettas used longer 12mm bolts, and can usually be accuired at any Vw shop. oh, and they are NOT chrome.

Watercooled lug bolts have a tapered seat and not a ball seat.

And I can't see JP using watercooled parts on his car.

Part # 3A0601139, M12x1.5x23.5, ball end, not a taper.

Many thanks. I found the lug bolt part # provided above for only $1.79 each (plus shipping).

I kind of like the gold-ish cad, although I'd have to see them on the car. I might have to have the front stock bolts done to match. Or not.

And yes, Glenn, it looks like H2O parts will touch my car. Let's hope that the wheel doesn't fall of as a result.

I ordered 10 (see photo), but they are not long enough. They are 24 mm in length (when measured from the base of the ball seat, but I need approximately 4 mm more (total length 28-30 mm).

Suggestions? I really like to avoid going to a stud and lug nut set up.

Thanks,

J

45mm was enough to me to be used with inch spacer, wheel and all the threads in disc

Thanks for the suggestion - much appreciated.

I found a set on Ebay:

BALL SEAT 14mmX1.50 Threads

    * brand new lug bolts
    * ball seat style
    * 14mmx1.50" thread size
    * 28mm shank length
    * 55mm overall length
    * hex size 17mm
    * chrome plated

Unfortunately, they are chrome plated, but I can take care of that.

Cheers,

J

The other problem is that you have 12mm holes, not 14mm

mercedes use ball-seat and there are lots of sizes available. they all use 17mm AF instead of 19mm. the OE are a nice dull zinc type plating. 126 401 06 70 may work, it looks like it has about 1.5 more threads than the one in your photo above and the threads don't start right under the seat, so it might be close to 4mm longer.

Thanks Scott. I already ordered a VW set before your reply, so I'll post how it works.

Thanks, and no worries, as it's my fault in any event. I'll just resell them.

The 12 mm should arrive this week, and I'm looking forward to it.

not really related, butwhen i fitted my fake BRMs to my 66, i wasnt too happy with the quality of the chrome bolts that came with them. they were the 12mm long ones and they were too long and if i were to use them i had to machine about 8mm off.

what i did was not really pretty.

i enlarged all the holes in the drum and rethreaded them so they accept 14mm late model lugs.

i then went to a european car junk yard and bought 20 pieces of the wheel lugs off a late 90s or early 2000 Audi A4.

those lugs are just the same as the late model VW 14mm lugs but much longer. they have VW and Audi logo on them.

i just cut them to the correct length and use those. for wheel lugs, i prefer OEM parts, not chrome taiwan parts.

Yeah, the longer chrome lug bolts arrived, and while they work, I've decided to go with black anodized wheel studs and open-faced lug nuts. They will look more "race" and less bling.

At least I hope so...

I now have one hell of a collection of longer wheel bolts, if anyone is interested.  Roll Eyes
