I agree with the In N Out burger sentiments... but anyone that would pay/spend $200,000 on a bus...well, my thoughts aren't politically correct.  Some people have more money than brains, almost to the point that they need to do something that says "look at me, I'm rich, Bi**ch!"  in the words of Dave Chappelle...lol.

I don't think In and out is the best burger but I don't hesitate to get my animal style any time I can...

200k for a bus is about the craziest thing I've ever heard... That explains why I can't find anything that even has any metal left on it for a reasonable price....

The Barrett Jackson auctions are a retarded joke, IMO.  It's like they have a sign out that says, 'D-bags with more money than sense, form a line here.'

It's my general opinion that anyone who pays more than a vehicle is really and truly worth just to show off how much money he/she has, or how easily they can afford to do so is a complete and utter douche.  I can't stand those uber rich playground auctions for people with more money than brains simply because all it is is a way for people with mass financial means to show off to the rest of the world... and it's not just the VWs.  Some of the other cars that are sold there for beaucoup bucks exemplify the horsesh*t nature of the rich man's involvement in the hobby.

Some have said that it's a thing of guys that didn't have the money for their dream car when they were younger now have some extra money and can afford it; that may be true for the guys that pay a reasonable sum for a desirable car.  But the guys that blow huge sums just because they can are just egotistical douches, IMO.  The guy that bought that bought that bus for $200K is a prime example.

This was a pissing contest between 2 guys bidding at the auction. The car car was listed on the samba a couple of weeks ago for $85,000. My brother checked the bus out Saturday and said it was absolutely "flawless". Was it worth that much, no. He was offered $135,000 for it Friday but turned it down due to the penalties of pulling it off the auction. Big gamble  but a huge score in the end. Congrats on the sale. The samba must be on fire right now with haters! LOL

The bus was at the classic with the $85,000 price tag. I'm suprised it went for so much. I couldn't have had more than $50K of work in it if you didn't do anything yourself.

Yeah, I was watching the auction live with my wife, jaw dropped in disbelief. I said to my wife, "well, every owner of a 21 or 23-window rag now thinks that they are that much richer."

It'll make inflation look like child's play. With buyer's commission and fees the final price was $217,800.

It certainly was a sweet bus, but...  Shocked

From Barret-Jackson's site (http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=363.2&aid=423&pop=0

"Summary: This 1963 23 window bus is one of the most desirable vehicles in the world. This is one of the highest quality restorations on a VW bus in the last decade . This bus has documentation from the VW factory in Germany to prove its authenticity.

Details: This 23 window deluxe sunroof bus is the ultimate VW . This was a 7 year long high end restoration. This bus is the rare original color scheme of Mouse Grey and Pearl White. Every part on this bus was completely rebuilt and detailed to the highest level possible. The interior has a German mohair headliner, original German balsamic grey interior, all original latches, handles ashtrays and luggage rails restored to perfection. Many NOS parts were used on this build like the speedometer and clock. The entire inside of this bus is beautiful . Every detail down to the original radio is correct. The paint and body work on this bus are some of the first details you notice. The entire undercarriage of this bus is as detailed as the rest of it. Not only does everything on this bus look great underneath but it runs and drives like it would have when you drove it off the lot in 1963. This bus is museum quality and has every correct detail down to every correct little decal on the engine. This bus just won the best bus award at the biggest annual VW show in the United States, The VW Classic. The 23 window deluxe sunroof bus is one of the most enjoyable vehicles you can cruise down the coast in. "

The engine tin was painted in gloss black instead of the correct semi-gloss type finish.  I wouldn't have paid more than $214,325 - tops!   Grin

That is a very nice example of a restored bus, but six figures?  Gimme a break.  Barrett's, as I've said before, is simply a playground for people with more money than brains.  It's a place where they can show off how very well off they are, simply put.

I'll likely never have that kind of money in my entire lifetime, and even if I did, I wouldn't blow that kind of a sum on a car, let alone a Volkswagen.
