Hey guys and gals,

Just started working on some body work on my 66 cal-bug. Still wondering on the color to paint it. My painter said that the car would be sweet in Root Beer Metallic Brown. I was wondering if any of you have any pics or links to pics of any Cal-bugs up to '67 with that color. He told me there was one in the Nostalgia part of the site. But any additional pics would help. Looking at that color or Java Green the original '66 color. Thanks in advance  Grin

Well even though I am the first to say I don't like metallic pait Espaecially metallic blue (sorry Mike Lawless) I gotta also say I have been really thinking there needs to be some brown cars out there. I think the metallic root beer could really work and would have a real throw back late 70's vibe, I think it would be good. Also though I like java green too and it is the OG color to your car...... At any rate I put in 1 vote for the root beer I bet it would be sweet I say go for it dive in and do it big.

It would be kinda cool to put a " DAD'S " sticker on the 1/4 window from DAD'S rootbeer company. Just a thought

One very fine colour to use , shade changes with light brightness .
A tuff streeter here in Oz land , alittle more darker but has fine gold metallic .

I think that root beer brown would look killer with a set of ERCO's to kinda offset the brown, I struggle with the dark brown/BRM look, its all too dark to me.  If you want the car to really stand out, put something real shiny on it for wheels.  Personally I love the ERCO Stars.  They make anything look cool!

In the California Look VW book I think there was a pic of a root beer brown beetle.  I want to say it was captioned as being Mark Thurber's.  I don't have my copy handy.  I love the look of that car and did consider painting my own Beetle that color.

My apologies for resurrecting an aging thread but, I had to comment to dak-a-tak: Have you considered applying gold flames to your root beer brown sedan? My opinion is that it would blend well and be very old school / retro.

Cheers,
