Got my turbo 2387 running this last weekend.  Jason, at VW Paradise, built an awesome engine, can't believe how good, and loud, it is.  Anyway I have a remote oil filter plumbed in.  I'm getting a major leak at the adapter fitting coming off the oil pump cover and at the adapter fitting that comes out the OFF side of the oil filter mount.  I've retightened several times and the one at the gear pump cover had decreased but still a little drip.  As for the oil filter mount, I put in new adapter fittings and used Lock-Tite green sleeve sealer.  At this point I'm afraid to restart Because I expect it will still leak.  I'm just curious if anyone has ideas for the problem I'm having.  Thanks

The fittings are all from Earl's and Russell and are -8 or 3/8" adapter fittings and it's an HP1 filter with a thin line sump and 6.5 quarts oil and registers between the marks on the dipstick

I had the same problems...It seems the Chinese decided to cast the threads into the oil filter adapter and the threads were a little stair stepped. I had to run a tap thru the threads to eliminate the problem.

Me too. I had to run a tap through them AND use teflon tape to stop the leak.

either bad threads, or a crack.
I have seen a ton of those filter bases sold with a crack in them new!!!

i would run a tap through and choose not to use the loc-tite sealer. if you do not use the primer with the loc-tite it will not seal right. i choose to use a tephlon type sealer not tape. you can purchase at home-depot. i use real tuff or tough stuff. it is in a white container in the plumbing dept.

When I built my motor I epoxied the full flow, brass 90 degree fitting into the case and used permatex to seal the -8 fitting into the berg full flow pump cover.

On the filter side I simply used liquid pipe dope to seal the two -8 fittings into the remote mount. No leaks AT ALL on either side.

OR, you can buy a billet one like the one the Jack at JC ENT. Bought one and it's sweet!! No problem with that one!  Grin

I installed a filter adapter on a bus recently. It had a tiny hole on the opposite side from the fittings. The hole was so small I could barely see the oil squirting out.

just checking, did you notice your oil pressure higher then normal? I had alot of leaks and it turned out to just be to high oil pressure because my oil pressure relieve plunger was sticking untill warmed up.

just thought Id throw that in there!!

I snugged the fitting at the oil pump cover and replaced the adapter fittings at the oil filter and used the Green Sleeve stuff.  Started it up and ran it and no leaks.  I'm a pessimist so I expect a leak to pop up at the worst time.  Thanks for the input.
