Well, it looks like it's up for sale again for $18.5K (Danger Russ sold it 4-ish years ago). No affiliation with the sale More details here: http://www.holygrailgarage.com/1956_SLOVAL_Ragtop_.htmlGreat discussion of memories of this car when Russ first sold it here: http://www.cal-look.com/forum/cal-look-high-performance/the-day-pigs-fly-sloval-up-for-sale!/I will never forget the infamous Cal-Look.com/Kymco pre-Classic bash in 2003. Everything about that weekend was completely over-the-top, especially Russ ( shocking surprise there). We had so much fun hanging out with Russ and the VW Paradise crew. Running our cars down Carlsbad (just before it closed) was the realization of a life long dream. Some memories of the Cornpanzer's Behind the Orange Curtain tour to the events can be found here: http://www.cal-look.com/2003/06/
Cheers, JP

Love the car, but the price seems high, I agree.

I'll never forget the sound of that car - you could hear it from a few blocks away! I remember asking Jason (from VW Paradise) how he got those straight cuts to sound so amazing, and I seem to recall him saying that he simply set them up with plenty of slop.
It sounded like a big V8 with a gear-driven blower, and would scare people simply idling at the stop lights.
A car that's hard to forget.

I remember him getting chewed out by Woody the Tech Guy @ Carlsbad, for running too quick of an ET, without something.... full cage, shoulder harness, chute... SOMEthing. Seems to me that he did get the car into the high 11's, and thats what got him in trouble... I remember finding that car in Mike Bamber's Business, Mike used to run the old "Silver Dollar" A/GS Willys pickup back in the 60's... alongside the Sloval was another Oval that had been hit real hard in front, I think it got parted out. The last thing I needed was another Oval at the time, plus, I was going to be on a plane in about 6 hours to Litchfield, CT, so there really wasn't any time to do anything... I called Russ, and another friend of ours that had been looking for an Oval, and told them both about it. Russ ended up with it, and thus the "Sloval" was born. I think Jason Reich (the current owner of the Sloval, used to own 1/2 of the H2o shop ABD Racing) is trying to thin the herd, he has a pretty impressive collection, don't know if he still does, but he used to own "Corona Ryans" old Big window car, a killer RHD Notch, 28 Ford Roadster with a full tilt boogie Flathead, a chopped Shoebox ford coupe, and some other cars that time has made me forget. I had many a happy ride in the Sloval, I think my favorite (now, after the pain subsided) leaving the DQ one night, Russ revs the car to the limiter, side steps the clutch, and the passenger seat mountings let go..Tinkerbelle I'm not, and all of a sudden I found my self looking at the sunroof, flat on my back, with a huge knot on the back of my head..ouch, dammit...

I remember the Sloval's appearance at VW PANIC!. Even with stingers, stereos, and dj, you could hear that car comin' around the corner a block away.

I remember that day well, as I had my own car there and was able to make a few passes at the legendary/infamous track. Per Kafer Dave's post above, the officials lectured Russ, ensuring that it was ONLY going to be DEMONSTRATION run. It looked and sounded great. He's a real character. J
