Anyone actually use them?Huh Ever had a stocker fail?Huh I bought me one since it was only $5, seemed like a good idea. I just can't get it to go on the crank. I have had tough times with straight cuts trying to get them on but I have never seen anything as tight as this spacer. I heated the crap out of it until it turned blue and even stuck the crank in my freezer, gets about halfway over the key on the crank and stops when the heat goes into the crank and makes it swell up.

So after an hour of trying to get it on I said hell with it and put my stocker on.

i use a press to put my gears on (no burned fingers!) and this week actually installed a racer spacer and it just slipped on wasnt a press fit, neither was the last one i did, both bp cranks.

its just cheap insurance

Does anybody know at what rpm a stock spacer fails and opens up to cause problems?  After extensive research it was discovered that they (the spacers) spread open ane fly off the crank, lodging between the crank and cam gear wiping out major parts of the engine...very expensive.  I wouldn't run anything but a racer spacer, unless I had a stock one handy.

you would be suprised how many people run the regular spacer and do fine, some pay say the racer spacer is just another gimmick to make money, sorta like the windage tray.

I'd just like to know if anyone has ever had one open up on them and cause problems. Maybe I just need to do a little sanding on the inside of the spacer and try again, it was just being a royal PITA.

Many, many years ago on the CLF this very topic came up.  At that time, someone made up a test fixture and spun it up to 20,000 rpm and it did NOT open up.

I remember Berg mentioning something about that...the OEM ones always held up, but the aftermarket ones would spread open.

Spin a motor to 8,000rpm for a while and you will see it open up. You can bet on it... revving a drag motor like that with all the vibration and such.
Otherwise a stocker is fine...
