Ok, I got a friend that knows how to port polish heads. If i give him 10 bucks he'll port my heads, but we donno what the limits of porting are on  stock vw heads. He's only done honda heads  Cheesy but they turned out nicely(for a nooby) he's still learning. Even if he screws up i can get another pair of heads for free  Grin good to have friends huh? So anyways what would you guys recomend for port an polishing the heads? moderate port job? Mild? or just take a chance an go all out? He's also going to port polish my inake manifolds (hes done them alot so there no biggy)
If i need to tell you what will be on the motor then...
either 40mm k-dogs or 34ICT Webers
standard header an glass pack
bosch kit
Its a 1600cc.. Wink

for that size motor, i would just get a good blend of the stock ports. you'll end up doing too much to those heads for a little 1600

im no expert but with that small of a motor, you need the bottom end. the bigger the port the worse the bottom end will get unless you up the displacement greatly. there is way too many factors but dont let him go hog wild. just clean up the port and call it good. dont go any bigger then the port on the gasket.

im not going to let him go hog wild, i was thinking moderate port an polish but i dont know Sad But the smoothing out idea sounds good though. who would be best to ask thats on this forum about port polishing, if you know?

Match the top of the port to the stock gasket and blend the port to the seat just a basic clean up of the ports. Match your manifolds to your new port along with a new valve job that is a far as I would go............Joe

Take out the valve guides first, this will make life easier. And I repeat, keep it small, just clean them up.
