Dave Butler (Dangerous Dave) has just finished my new type 1 gearbox, Berg5 with Weddle 3.88, one piece mainshaft and a Quaife (bus splines). So I'm pretty excited Grin

Yes, its going in a road race ghia (street registered). I've got a Mendeola front end to weld in and I've stuffed 944 alloy arms under the back with 8'' wheels.
Top pic is the car as it was last year.

I think we have met, seen your car at local Melbourne events. I have a chopped drag bug I am putting together, I am also fortunate enough to have a DB trans (swingaxle) waiting to go

Beautiful box! (You know, I've never said that to another man Cheesy) I've always admired the Berg 5 speed, but couldn't bring myself to modify the metal above the nosecone.

Tell us more about the Ghia.

I love Melbourne, BTW...

I'm using a berg 5 shifter with a ball handle. I like it better than the T.
A pic of the cage and engine.... 2387, Berg 86, 5.5 Carillos, Nickies, CE heads 44/37, Web 86B, IDA 42 vents. 150 hp at the wheels. Built by me Grin

Holly torque - you could rip trees out of your front yard with that thing! What's the compression ratio?

How is it on the hillclimbs? What are your shiftpoints?

Sweet ride.

John I shift at 6700 and revs drop to 4700 in 2nd & 3rd. Fifth will get short shifted at 6400 to stay higher in the power band. Its still making 160hp (flywheel) at 4700 though.
Comp is 9.4, next rebuild I'll probably go to 10:1
At the sprints it did 115mph flat out in 4th, the new box is geared for 135!! We'll have to see if the engine can pull it.
My head temps are 290F flat out. I'm very happy with the engine, though I'm thinking of trying an 86C
The picture was taken at the Lukey hill climb at Phillip Island (not much of a hill) I probably won't get out of 3rd in the hill climbs.
Essex how is your drag car progressing? Pics?

not yet, car is back from the panel shop with rear guards reshaped to take porsche alloy arms with uniballs and poly bronze bushes, 8"  wheels etc. I also got the front guards wired and the engine compartment tidied up. So It's painted now and i hope to start assembly in a couple of weeks.
