hey guys I got a lot of good info on here before. Pretty much built my old 67 from help and info from CLF .  Sadly my car was wrecked two years ago right before I was getting married, and I sold it  basically for the motor and trans. I had a 1915 that was pretty much Influenced by mark Herbert's posts and the motor ripped, then added a turbo and it had every redneck around afraid to try me with there mustangs . ....
Anyway,  I just bought a beater 77 standard thats nice and straight  and stock. My intentions were to keep it stock and simple. But it all came back ...after two years of not wanting to look at another bug .. Cause it killed me to see a ten year project go down the drain. I've got the bug bite soo bad now all I can think about is another quick bug. Man I guess this is an addiction you don't just lose, or grow out of.  So to cut to the chase, I'm building a 2276  and I'm fighting myself not to think turbo and stay old school and simple.   While I'd love to get Ida's and go huge , it starts to get a little out of my budget.  So far I have the shortblock. I'm trying to build a torque monster and would like to see at least 170 whp if possible with what I have so far  and hpmx or idfs.
Heres what I have  (shortblock is built already)
As 41 full flowed
82mm German welded crank
Stock rods good balanced clearances and stock length
Engle 125
Lightened flywheel but running a 51/2 lb Ching chong crank pulley s(ince light flywheels aren't for heavy cars)

I was thinking about some CNc mini wedge ports from cb performance or drd with 42x37 valves and cr around 9.1  oh and I plan to use 1.1 rockers
I'm thinking idfs (44s) come with 36 mm vents  so they'd be awesome for torque  but I was thinking maybe 48mm idfs or if I can just get vents in 38-40 mm to get more top end out of it.  Just wanted to know what you guys think.

Any suggestions ? Maybe just staying at 40x35 valves  for gobs of torque.  Sorry for the long  post  just looking for suggestions and getting excited about cruising again.

the main thing is its gotta stay drivable and  on pump gas even if it's 93 just gotta be able to drive.  I would love to be able to see 12s at the track if possible with what I've got so far  and a full weight car. Thanks for any help

For driveability I would use IDF-48's instead of the IDA's.  For torque stick with 40x35 valves and don't hog out the ports, just open it up underneath the valves.  Also for torque I would use a mild cam, like an Engle 120 and use ratio rocker arms for more lift.  Above all, make sure that the compression ratio matches the octane used.

With 40x35 valves there's really no need in 48s  that would be a torqer for sure but not gonna have much top end for the track ..  I've already got the 125 cam with I.1 rockers

go 42x38 wedges

and 48 with 40 vents and maybe 9.5 comp and 1.25s cuz big engine get plenty torque. I had a 2176 and big head 42x37 and 10+1 and E130x1.25s and close gears and went mid 12s. so possibilities are good for low 13s with good traction. Who knows, it will be fun trying.
