Please pass this on:

As of 1/06 the use of a Neck Collar or Helmet restraint device will be mandatory in all PRA classes. Neck Collar must be commercially produced and designed for racing. Two different collars are available: a full 360-degree "Donut" type or a pull-together "Horseshoe" type. Helmet restraint device can be used with or without a neck collar. Modification of the device is prohibited.

We will be enforcing this rule.

I used my neck collar twice this year to get somewhat used to it for the upcomming PRA season. Bottom line, there is no getting used to it after bracket racing all these years, I cant turn my head but 10 degrees and shift my eyeballs another 35 degrees, grand total of 45. The last race of 05 I was turning my head just about backward to see the MM freight-train comming up on me Shocked . But I feel safer with the collar on.

The neck collar I use does'nt limit my neck motion at all. I am glad I use one, you'll get used to it.

FYI any decent neck collar will have an sfi tag on it.... They dont go out of date so dont worry....

Also for the 9.99 and faster croud, from my understanding if you wear a head and neck restrain system you still need to wear a neck collar.... But I dont believe anyone in the pra has a h & n restraint system....

I bought mine about 6 months ago before I even realized it was a PRA rule. Safety stuff--- the more the merrier!

After doing 3 rollover flips down the back stretch,I wouldn't think about running without one.I can't can't count how many times I've been T-boned,rear-ended,hit head-on,smacked the wall, and been just plain bashed-up.I was always glad I had a collar on.

Not near Orange, But Simpson in Torrance, they should have it all there. Or Call Jeg's or Summit, it only takes two days max, if they have it in stock. Or try BEP Performance or Fast Eddies Race Cars, they usually can get it within a day or so. They are both on Glassell, between Taft and Katella.

You can buy directly from Crow Enterprises in Fullerton at 714-879-5970. These guy's have been a real help by making up custom length belts and window nets for me. They have all the jackets, pants, collers you name it, with great prices. highly recommended

Years ago I used a neck collar when I drag raced.
Since then I've raced with a HANs and now use a device called the R3.
There is a lot of information on the net regarding head and neck protection.

Imho all safety equipment is helpful but this article has some interesting safety points to consider.

OK, the price tag is a little steep for some of the more budget-conscious racers out there. Why not just pass on the Hutchens hans type device and go with a neck collar?

“Neck collars don’t do it,” Ashline states. “The people who thought that worked believed that the head just rotates down, and it doesn’t in a crash. The head first translates forward. Your upper torso belts hold you back, and your head goes straight forward until your neck tries to pull it down. You get full extension, you load the belts all the way and you’re (neck is) out here like this (three or four inches), then your neck starts to pull you down and it misses the collar altogether. You’ll never hit the collar.

Here is a link to the R3 I currently use.

Just Google Head and Neck restraits and consider the options, many lower cost units are available now.

now I know how my dog felt when he got fixed.
Raced my first race with one. It takes alittle getting use to but I would prefer the safety factor.

...nope.  If you have a HANS or similar device, you don't need the neck collar.  I've seen some funny car, Pro Mod, and other "violent" type of car driver where both, but the majority just wear the HANS.

IMO, no matter how fast you go, the HANS (or similar) device is so much better at restraining the head than a neck collar.  If you have seen any of the slow-mo crash tests, you'll know what I'm talking about.  If I was to do racing again on a regular basis, I would spend the $$$.  It one of the best insurances you can have (next to a nice, high quality helmet).

I cant agree with you more... I just awalys remember watching Dickson and Force both, awalys wearing the hans and the doughnut... Back when force was wearing a hans.... Its deffantly on my list before I start promod racing for sure.

If anyone is in a pinch I will bring up an extra neck collar to let borrow if need be.
