What are my muffler options for a 1 3/4 header? I currently am running a 1 5/8 CB header with a stainless fatboy like most guys run but the 1 3/4 header I am thinking of getting has the large flange with 2 bolts at the top and 1 at bottom instead of 1 at top and 2 on bottom like the 1 5/8 headers do.
Going to give a 1 3/4" header a try on my 2332 with 10:1, 44x37 CB wedgeports, 86C cam, 44 IDFs with 38mm vents, pump gas etc etc. Motor made peak RWhp of 165.7 @ 5700 so I think I have some room to let her breathe. I know the 44s are too small but once tax return season rolls around there will be some 48s on my list unless someone on here wants to trade a set of 48 idfs or idas for my 44idfs! Grin

I don't know about you but I think big header and muffler with 38 vents might not work in your case so I would say wait until you get your 42 vents den go for it.

I agree maui. I plan to do 48s soon but I have the motor out right now while my tranny is getting fixed so I was going to put header on it now that way when I do 48s I don't have to pull the motor.
I want something like this one that Pat Downs has on this car.  http://cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1781
Can you buy these single chamber type mufflers already built like this or is it some custom thing people are doing?

Kevin,

On my 2332 cc, 86C, IDA's 1.75 Bugpack header, I've been running the ceramic-coated A1 Magnaflow muffler for five years and am very happy with it.  Ran 44 x 37 valved-CB 044 oval ports (K-Roc ported) and now JPM heads.  It is a fairly quiet (streetable) muffler, but growls nicely when raced.  Got mine via aircooled.net.  Here's a short video of how it sounds on the dyno, it's a bit louder because of the indoor setting:

Call Tiger at A-1, link is on the left of page. He can make you whatever you want just tell him what header you have. He makes those in single or dual chamber flowmasters. I'm sure its raspy as hell.
