The transaxle is a 66 Type3. Engine is just a stock 1600DP. Definitely not up for a race, but very responsive even loaded full of parts. VERY reliable for long hauls. I can "really" cruise 70mph all day long no problem. No overheating issues either. However, i'm only getting about 22mpg. I narrowed the front beam 5inches, lowered the whole bus approximately 14 inches. It's ratty, but a lot of fun and i dont worry about it.

Dude, we need to talk up there.  Narrowing my beam is the next step.  Wish I had the Single back on the road so I could take it up there.

Old pic... it's much lower now.

Later...

nelsons is an hour and a half from ypsi.
Most people just camp out in the hotel lot in ypsi. see the mvvc site for other campgrounds

we are now in Grand Junction, Colorado and moving along pretty good.
A.J. Sims (aka Mr. Kadron) of LowBugget.com is also cruising with us to Michigan in his '70 turbo'd powered Beetle.

For those of you that are awake Monday morning, check out KCW (Kustom CoachWerks) real-time "clean" web cam while they host us for breakfast at around 7:00am (Mountain Time): http://kustomcoachwerks.com/

Also on the side note that Doug and Gary Berg are riding along with Dee.
Clyde cruised with us up to Mesquite, NV then headed back home to get work done before Sac BOR.

It's official...I'm bringing my 56 and planning on taking home the horsepower trophy.  No snide remarks as to which one are necessary.  I have a few new tricks up my exhaust pipe and tuning practices that are a little unconventional.  Oh well, who cares anyway???  See you there.

I'll be there with my '71 Super Beetle powered by an old-school 1776cc.  I plan on attending both the VoA tour and Dyno Day.  See all of you Saturday!

For those who will be in town all weekend, Royal Oak is a popular local hangout and the famed Woodward Avenue runs right thru it (Michigan Highway 1).  Lots of cruising action on Woodward Avenue in the evenings.  People cruise from 9 Mile to Maple Road (also called 15 Mile).  Definately check it out if you are in the area!  There are lots of good restaurants along there with plenty of parking for cruisers.  There is a great microbrewery south of I-696 on Woodward in Ferndale, Michigan called the Woodward Avenue Brewers.  They are located 2 blocks south of 9 Mile on the east side of Woodward.  Hunter House in Birmingham is another good place to go - it's an old-fashioned hamburger stand located in Birmingham, just north of Maple.  Have fun and be safe!

OhioTom, I'll be staying at the Ypsilanti Marriott for Fri. thru Sun. nights.  Since I'll be arriving Fri evening after being on the road from So. NY all day, I'll need some octane boost to stay awake.  Look for the cream Ghia cabrio, either under its own power or off the back of a tow truck. Looking forward to meeting you and the Ohio group.  Yes, will be coming thru/past Cleveland on I-271 S and I-480 W to get to I-80 W early afternoon. Have a good drive!

I talked to AJ Sims again today and he said he got 1st place on the dyno!! Little 2 liter with his 1600t turbo kit kicked some a$$. I think he said 198hp & 237ftp torque @ the rear wheels.
That's running pump gas around 8# boost only around 4500rpms. I wonder what that would be with the Orange Co. factor??  Wink
