well it's official, the car was released to me yesterday on my property now...kinda weird seeing it in person..seeing as i don't remember a thing...do know that i was stroked from behind and put into a guardrail at 60+ highay speds on 95 south...still feeling it.

...there is way more than the pics show but i can't walk around and snap some right now. the benefit was a great success and will help the mama and i for a bit...for now i'll figure out what to unload, there isn't much left but I believe the motor is still good,it was brand new 1914 before the accident with around 2k on it,with all the right stuff put in it,the trans is stock, clearanced and perfect,as well as rubbers, pop outs, interior bits,I'll probably end up cutting the roof off at the pillars as it was a rag graft from the beginning...3 of the wheels are still great but one is taco'd pretty good,5.5 rear and 3.5 front, still more in the car I'm sure if anyone has any particular interest in anything let me know...

could have been much worse for sure, broken left leg from the knee down, the left ankle and some misc hits and such but thats it....no belts in the car as I took em out 3 days before to get them restitched. somebody was looking down on me that day, never been in an accident in my life and the one time it's in the "one of the most unsafe cars in the country" ....I have to disagree...she took the hit insanely well, considering I hit the guardrail at 60-70mph on I-95 south...nearly straight on.

Holy smokes Tim!  That is awful!  I'm glad you are only semi broken and not worse.  That is a major loss I'm sure.  Are you going to make out okay with insurance?  Or is it a pretty major loss?  Sorry to see this.

we're trying to do something with insurance right now...a couple more pics and we can have the car back,I have it for sale here locally as a complete but we'll see, gotta get as much back as I can as it's a total loss and we're out about 25k,hopefully we can settle with the insurance company and get a settlement.
worst part is, I lost the shop and all money coming in 'cuz of the accident,as i'm not able to walk til late Nov. (which is actually ahead of schedule!)...things have a way of working out, still have a cool original notch and the hot rod...and when things are back to normal(ish) and we get our new shop,I'm gonna go through the hot rod one more time ,the way i should have done it in the first place, and get back to life.

yeah for sure...said that it took an hour and a half to get me out as they couldn't cut the roof off cuz the legs were trapped under the dash and between the fender wells,my buddy heard it over the scanner the night of the accident, couldn't believe that an old bug was in an accident, then he realized...'uh oh"...could be Tim,he was right.

wooops.

UNBELIEVABLE! glad to hear your okay....you never really know "if and when" do you and to have someone hit you from behind...is really scary.

yeah, the fact that the dude drove away makes it worse...like getting blood from a rock now....out a car,a shop and 6 months of recovery cuz of a toolbag who didn't want to be behind me.

Good grief man, what happened? Gotta be honest, looks far more like you got lucky than the car taking it well. Glad to hear you are alive, not completely broke off, etc.  If anyone's ever seen a 50s or 60s Standard Beetle, and a Super Beetle, stripped down, you'll appreciate the noteworthy improvements in the front structure-not only more area, but much more and stronger sheetmetal, much improved design in terms of crashworthiness. Even the heater channel to firewall design is different. Best of luck to you.

Looking at your pics again, doesn't look like you had the spare tire in place. I would bet that actually would have made a big difference-it's known that VW put it there not only for storage but for safety reasons too.

i'm sure that could be an option but at 60mph it ain't gonna make much of a difference...also i didn't hit the "nose", i hit the drivers 3/4...spare tire wouldn't have meant crap.

the drivers front wheel, literally entered the car through the pan and heater channel, snapped the spindle, and tie rod.  also the frame head tore away from the tunnel on the passenger side, causing the severe angle you see in the pic.

pretty silly when you really zoom in,the guardrail cleared right over the spare tire well and folded the gas tank top, bumper and "A" piller something feirce...notice the bumper is facing up and not in...

take a good look at the side pick you'll see what i mean.
