To run this system, this is what I did,

On the flywheel end, insted of stacking up the plungers to bottom them out, I just drilled and tapped the hole with 1/8" plug

The pully end I drilled and tapped the discharge port that relieves the pressure to the cam gear area, and since I am not running the stock cooler, I drilled and pluged those holes as well. So all my oil bypass is handled strickly by the jaycee unit.

My problem is, when I first start the motor up, when oil is cold. (15w40 rotella t) My oil pressure is 120psi at idle. If I just raise the rpm's up 500 when cold, the pressure goes up to 130psi. The needle on the pressure gauge just stops. I am thinking that the bypass valve just can't keep up to bleed off the pressure? When the oil heat's up, pressure drops down to about 35 psi at idle.

So, if I hooked this up ok. Is there a problem with the oil pressure being that high when I first start the motor up? There are no oil leaks. And all my oil clearences are set at factory speks.

Do you have the -6 or -8 bypass?

I have a 6AN bypass on my JayCee unit, and my pressure never exceeds 80psi, and doesnt drop below 35psi

Alan, I would drop down to a 5W-30 oil.

How's life otherwise?   Drop me a line some time.

I am running the -6 bypass. I wasn't aware there was a -8 size. Hey Darren, how's it goin. Been meaning to email you for quite awhile now. Just been super busy. I have heard good thing's about that Shell Rotella oil. That's why I wanted to try it. But I could only find it in 15w40.

I wouldn't worry about the hight oil presure Alan. I've done effectively the same thing, block the weep hole at the pulley side, block off the hole that would be under the piston w/pipe plug at the flywheel. My oil pressure is high when cold too. I use -8 pressure relif valves though. Have you let it get warm?

Check the bypass valve, mine was installed backwards and oil press. was very high. Turned it around and the press. was about 80 psi.cold ,drops to about30 psi hot at idle.   Tim

Tom,
Yes I have let the oil warm up to operating temp. Pressure is 35psi at idle, and that was a very low idle, and since I do not have a tach hooked up to my engine stand. By ear, I would say I rev it up to about 3500-4000, and pressure is around 70 psi. This is a street/strip car. Right now, on the engine stand I am running the oil out the case, to the filter, and back in the case. Short oil lines. The oil heats up quickly. When it goes back into the car, the oil cooler will get hooked up, so now there is alot more oil. Plus I am running -10 oil lines. This motor holds over 10 quarts of oil. Takes forever to get oil temps up. I am now going to run one of  those inline oil thermostates for quicker oil warm up, and try switching to a 5w30 oil. I'll call JayCee tomorrow and ask about a -8 bypass valve. Thanks for the help!!
