I have an old Weber tech manual that shows a picture of a guy checking the fuel level of his IDA's with a dial caliper and a flashlight by measuring the fuel level in the e tube well (jet stacks removed). There is no mention of this proceedure in the text of the book, just the picture and a caption. I assume that this is a way of double checking that your floats are set correctly after the carbs have been fueled up. Can anyone explain how to perform this proceedure?  Brian

contact Gene Berg Enterprises. They made a really trick float level device that makes it real easy. I have one and it works great.

Dude the tool is gravy to make... If you have an old Webber manual it shows you how to make it....

I do have a float level guage and thats how I set the levels. Double checking the level with a dial caliper sounds like a good idea since it measures the actual level of the fuel in the bowl.

The Weber manual by Haynes has a very simple method for setting IDA floats. Personally, I don't like the Berg tool.

I like the Berg tool, I keep one in my jet box, it works bitchin'.
I'd still like to know how to check the float level another way... leaky IDA floats are real common these days, they don't solder the brass float halves together like they used to I guess... The Beg tool doesn''t tell you the actual fuel level in the bowl

I will say this... If your float adjustment is off by 0.5mm, it will cause problems.. IDA's are very sensetive to float settings. Quadruple check them...

There is a hole in the top of the carb that allows you to measure to the top of the float. I don't know what the measurement is supposed to be, but you can measure the float right there. Give it a quick double check periodically without pulling apart the carb.
Anyone know what that measurement is supposed to be?

Check out the "float level guage with adapter" on the right side of that webpage. It has a adapter that threads into the float bowl drain plug and then tells you the fluid level in the bowl via the site glass. I'd hate to ask how much one of those setups cost but thats the same info I would like to get from the e tube dial caliper method. Cool link Bruce.
