This is a friend's alternator in his buggy.  He says it came on the donor bug (a '74 super).  Any ideas where the connections on top of this thing should go?  Is this an externally regulated alternator?

That's a AL78, you need a solid state external regulator.

It's cheaper to get a AL82 alternator with a internal regulator.

I had 2 of those, I hated to do it, but I ended up tossing both of them because I didn't have the regulator.

We havent even had any luck purchasing the regulators for those alternators, but for the price of that one from CIP1, ide buy a chinese AL82.
I know no one cares for chinese on thses forums, but we been selling them for 2 years now and non have came back for warranty.
I mean sure i used to trust BOSCH more, but even Bosch only has a 1 year warranty. BOSCH are real expensive now, but we do offer them for the people that will not accept chinese.
AC INDUSTRIES makes a good chinese AL82.

Is the voltage regulator in my 67 NOT a Solid state? Aka, wont work with that alternator? I just recieved an alt. like that for free, and Wondering if Its not going to be usable now unless i get that special Vot. Regulator.

Amazing timing, because I just got my freebie Alt on saturday, haha.
