A freind of mine in town a Machinist and V8 Performance Engine builder turned me on to this oil. I am going to try it on my next new motor break in. He swears by the stuff as V8 flat tappet guys been having flat cam syndrome also.Personnally i have not had a flat cam but i been out of it a while and am doing a couple new stroker motors right now, well soon as i get some parts back.I know a lots changed in the parts we have access to now. Here's a link that if ya scroll down you can see it compared to other popular racing oils.He also told me that the Valolene VR 1 they been continually taking down the amount of zinc in it and upping the calcium and the calcium wipes off the zinc. http://www.championbrands.com/racingxp.htmlhard to read the graph but red line is moly, blue is calcium, yellow is phosphous, green is zinc. http://www.championbrands.com/racingxp.html[/url]

Dotson, I wondered if this was the same company as "Champion Spark Plugs"!!!! I have not seen this oil at all over here on the West Coast. Worth looking into. I have been adding the GM Zink additive to my motor with no problems so far.........

Now we are seeing oils like this pop up... They are targeting people who have only heard of Zinc and want to buy an oil thats rich with it..
All too often these oils have a critically imbalanced ratio of anti-wear and detergency packages. Those graphs show nothing about the detergency package of the oil, only anti-wear.
Be educated on this topic, its more than just zinc and Phosphorous that make oils effective.

What oil do you prefer? My Machinist freind builds and race's these cars link below and these wore out motors like it lot.Have better ring seal and more HP on the dyno, less cam troubles since switching to it.This is our local dirt track. We used to race bugs their in the 90's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAQWdkrUrBY&NR=1

I've been using Mobil 1 racing oils -- most of them have very high ZDDP

While on the topic of high ZDDP oils, I was at our local World of Wheels show and was handed a couple of brochures from companies selling higher ZDDP oils. The first claims 1800 ppm of ZDDP and the second 1600 ppm. Personally I use full synthetic oil, but there's some interesting information here: http://z-alt.ca/http://camoils.com/about.html

I know this sounds strange, but some of the local dirt track engine builders here in Louisiana say there is a guy down the street from me that will make me any oil combo I need.... I guess he figures the temps, etc, out and custom mixes it.... ?? Never heard of that before, but I'm gonna check him out... I use VR1 race oil with Lucus additive.... It's not cheap, but I still have a cam (this time)...

Oils that aren't 20W-50.
I also don't understand why people run 20 50. I always run 10 40 and have never had any trouble with cam wear or anything. I run conventional valvoline.

Of whay I've been told they are pulling more and more ZDDP out every year until there is no more.... The standard are gonna get lower and lower... One of my Buddies is a Royal Purple Rep and being trained on the line right now... I'm amazed at the info he is telling me... Basicly if you are running pushrods you are gonna be screwed and pay a fortune for oils and adititves really soon...

I have been using Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w40 synthetic motorcycle oil. Made for the sport bikes with a wet clutch system so it has extra zddp in it. Also made for high rpms so it doesn't foam as bad as some do. So far so good with my 86C, Empi Lube a Lobe lifters and CB's VW650 springs. Thought about trying some Rotella 5w40 synthetic because if I get on it before I have driven 15 minutes it sucks my sump dry and kicks my oil light on. I am thinking since its been winter time that the 10w40 isn't draining down to the sump fast enough. Only thing about Rotella is I worry about it foaming up at 7k rpm since its made for diesels.
