Hi guys. I'm Gavin. I found my way here via a write-up by John Plow on patina cars. I drive a Mk1 Golf and am trying to find new inspiration for it. I think it's easy to get sucked in by current trends and the write-up was such a breath of fresh air for me and it's changed my perspective on what I am trying to achieve with my car so thanks for that John Plow!

The VW scene in South Africa is growing every day. I think we are still playing catch up if international standards and trends are anything to go by. What I am doing with my car is quite fresh for the local scene, but is still very much old news compared to what's being done in the US and Europe.
So what I am doing might not be in line with what is going on this forum (or maybe it is I'm not sure), but I look forward to browsing around and soaking up all this site has to offer! I'm so glad I found my way here!

Well here is my car. I'll start off with a before, 6 years ago when I got it. It's a 1996 Citi Golf and still my first car. As much as I like the Citi Golf I do appreciate the early and original Mk1 Golf shape so I set about converting it.



So this is how it is now. I'm not taking it all too seriously right now and I'm just having fun with the car. I do all the work myself  My wheels are now on their 4th colour. I do admit to having run pink wheels on the one side, haha, but now I'm keeping it white on the passender side and green on the drivers. I'm currently running a rusted hood, but ran the other until a week ago. So like I said I'm not sure how it will go down on this forum but I am intrigued by what you guys are about.
