I was bored looking at you tube and saw the smart car with this engine. Not that I would do this but has anybody created something of this sort in a bug?

A bug is too heavy and that motor wont make enough torque to get it moving good.

There is a rear engine dragster that is at Barona from time to time  running a Hayabusa motor.

Driven by a chick, dont remember any times but as I remember it,s pretty FAST.

Actually, in near stock form, they make over 70 ft.lbs. from 3K to 10.5K rpm, peeking at just over 90.
With a turbo it's easy to make over 300 for a streetbike, reliably.
BUT! #1 - they're water-cooled & #2 - the weight savings wouldn't be that great, if any.

Jeez, you might as well put a rotary in it ... ECK. Undecided

I'll stick to the program and continue to to be the VeeWee freak in the crowd.

I have seen them in mini sandrails, and even in a sandrail thet weighs 1000+ they suck compared to my 2332....

would be horrible in a bug unless you could get a tranny to launch at 13000RPM

Here is a clip of a Busa motor in a VW Golf

It looks like it runs 0 to 60 in a hurry.

i was going to build a lotus 7 with 1 in years ago when they first came out .
spoke to caterham and they put me in touch with the company that built them the blackbirds powered cars .
i ended up helping/giving them advice on a fly-by-wire throttlebody arrangement , as they where building a race car for a guy paralysed from the waist down .
they needed drive controls on steering wheel , but needed removeable wheel to strap in in !!

i remember at the time there was a problem with a reduction box on tranny . i think quaife eventually solved it .

if you can build a light enough car , a high revving engine and 6 speed sequential bozxare the way to go .... just like an f1 car Smiley
plus you get itb's and a whole lot of other stuff standard !!

We just checked a 1352cc N/A Hayabusa on our Dynojet today.  191HP and 103Ft LB at the wheel on a easy run due to tire slippage.  Bike will be run at Irwindale tonight for shake down.  No turbo, no NOS, just ALL MOTOR on a bike that weighs in at under 400 pounds.  This would put it near 220HP at the F/W without any map work.

Suzuki worked with a chassis builder several years ago to develop a sports class racer built around their Hayabusa motor.  The cars ran great, and several were driven by M/C magazine writer's at Willow Springs.  They had a problem with the starter drives going into the engine flywheel when the cars spun out and "rolled backwards".  The starters exploded!  To my knowledge the program was killed before they fixed the problem.

John, they weigh over 500#s stock, still they are crazy fast. Mine is a 2000, stock with a pipe, a 2nd intake cam on the exhaust side, piggyback computer and oxygenated fuel made 183 hp  and has gone 9.0s with a flyweight rider(9.50s consistently with my fat ass).I have somewhere near 1000 passes on it and it runs the same numbers it did when I got it. There are a few "Grudge" busas around that put out over 300 hp and run deep in the 7s on motor, no wheelie bars. From what I hear, about 8 passes on rod bearings.

A Buddy has a Velocity turbo pro sportbike that makes over 500 hp, and has been 7.80s at over 190 in "street trim" no wheelie bars, 60" wheelbase, DOT tires and a hand clutch.

Busas are cool, they kind of brought bike drag racing to a new level of popularity

08s are supposed to be nasty, I have yet to ride one.

Busa's weight 486#s stock.  The bike mentioned above is a stripped down "Drag Bike".

I'm an "old man" and need my "comfort", no Busa's for me, LOL!

I ride a 2008 Kawasaki Concours 14 (1352cc) with 158 "stock" horsepower.  They will run 10 second ET's with the touring bags on, "all day".  Top speed in fifth gear is just over 158 mph, but it also has an O/D sixth gear for cruising.  It's the nicest bike I've ever ridden.

The guy that helps me with the machining has a Hayabusa turbo. 330 hp at the rear wheels and lots of torque.
He says it is more than you can handle on all gears. It either spins or wheelies. He once tried to pull full throttle at 150 mph but it wheelied...
There are hayabusas in Sweden with over 700 hp, here is a 685 hp engine:
http://www.mc-xpress.com/records/kristerjohansson.htm

Low torque can be compensated with the right gearing (or a turbo...)

A little OT, but the AMA road racers are going to be at Fontana next weekend.  I may drive down and watch (even though I should be working on my car).

A Golf weighs more then a Beetle. Heres a video with a Busa motor in a Golf. I think a bug would move just fine lol.

486 Dry, gas and oil put them well over 5 bills.

I'm not talking about manufacturers claimed weight, I'm talking about return road scale weight... Anyway at 400 pounds your man spent a lot of $$$

Concours 14 is a cool bike, I would love to get one.

Yeah Joe, Bob carpenter is the man. I have never had work done by him, but he knows his sh#t.

If you want to go fast and only have $12K, you can beat the performance.  If I had to start over-- I might be racing bikes.  It's truly amazing the performance you get for the $.

Actually the Smart Car weighs about the same as our full weight bugs. Google it. Suprised me too. But with all the bumper laws and crash worthiness they have to put al lot more steal and all the modern crap make them heavier than you would think. So yes it would work. Tranny though would have to be figured out.
