Okay, it's been quite a while since we've done one of these sorts of posts on the CLF.  We get requests for engine shots, or interiors, but I want to see rims and tires!

I'll start.  I've got a 66 that is affectionately known as "The Hooptie" and it has American Racing Wide 5 Fuchs.

I've always loved the wide 5 fuch wheel.  I remember living on the east coast and attending events and looking at the early cars with them.  I loved them!  I had a late model Super Beetle and couldn't run them.

As Super Beetles go, I was happy with what I had.  I had the Mag Wheel dealer option wheels that were made by Superior Industries in Van Nuys CA.  These were  actually pretty cool four lug wheels.  I had 195/65/15s on them.

And my last entry comes from my 64 Convertible.  This one had the 911 Porsche Fuchs with the desireable 4.5" and 6" deep wheels.  While these wheels looked incredible, I hated the skinny 135s on the front of the car.  In an emergency stpping situation, those tiny tires would lock up and skid so easily.  As a result, after muchas consternation, I brought myself to sell these wheels off of the car. Cry  Instead, I've wanted to update the look of the car and I purchased a set of 993 Cup wheels that are 17x7".  I'm still trying to decide upon a tire size, but I think I will most likely be running a 205 50 R17.

[

So let's see them wheels fellers!

Cool thread.

Fake BRMs (since sold) on my '67:

Original DDS rims (13 inch fronts, 15 inch rears):

Original Porsche 356 rims:

Rims are like fashion, IMHO - a simple change makes a huge difference.

Cheers,

Does anybody know if a 205 50 17 on wheel with an ET55 offset will fit front and back on a early car without narrowing the beam or tortion?

15" x 5.5" American Eagle 8-spokes polished by Mag Masters back about 1994.

Fronts have 145-15 Michelin XZX (repro by Coker Tire = $$)
Rears have 205-60-15 Dunlop SP Sport A2
Picture taken before I installed a narrowed front beam.

And these are Ercos 3.5 in the front and 5 in the rear.

I had 3 types of wheels on my 73 bug over the years :
1st were Riviera's (originals) with 145 Firestones up front and 205/70 Goodyears rear.
2nd are Flat Fuchs (911) 6x15 with the same tyres.
3rd are Sprintstar EMPI 4,5 with 165/70 for Tech Control purpose . Looks clean.

Nice work fellas! Keep 'em coming! What else do you have?

Those wheels and pics are all cool and everything, but what I was hoping to see was the first cal-look VW with spinners. LOL!  Cheesy Grin

"Fronts have 145-15 Michelin XZX (repro by Coker Tire = $$)"

Jim,

I'm a period rubber guy myself, running XZXs on my 356 rims, Xs on my DDS rims, and XWXs on the Fuchs on my '71 911.

BTW, according to Coker, the tires are NOT reproductions, as they are made by Michelin in the original molds in group batches, which is why there is a "feast or famine" supply. The only thing improved is the rubber.

I note this because I thought that they were reproductions as well - not to get into a debate about the meaning of the word - but Coker corrected me.

You car looks great, BTW.

Thanks John -  I thought they were reproductions using molds sourced from Michelin - guess I was wrong.   I also have (2) Kleber 145-15 radials mounted on chrome steelies that came with the car.  I'm using one as my spare.
