Someone posted a while ago asking what the original colour/tone is for engine tin. I finally blew the dust off of my completely original, low mileage 1300 cc engine for reference.

Note:

1. I did not colour correct the photos.
2. Your monitor will impact the colour you see.
3. The cylinder tin has been cleaned, polished and waxed. The fan shroud has been cleaned, but not polished or waxed.

I hope that this helps.

Here's a NOS 1600DP tin. A bit dusty but never used.

Nice pictures.

Back when I was building my 1776 engine, I purchased some new DP tin from a supplier (can't remember their name).  It didn't have the triangular air deflector (as seen in Glenn's picture) and the quality wasn't as nice as the old German tins I got with the car.  I had both sets painted at the same time and ended up using the German stuff on the engine.  You can really tell the difference using the factory tin pieces (especially the fan shroud, cylinder covers and breast plates.

After I upgraded the heads and manifolds, they needed trimming to fit.

Yeah, I had to trim the hell out of my original tin (with important deflectors) to fit my IDAs on short DDS manifolds. I always joke that you can barely fit a feeler gauge around all of tin. It was a pain in the ass!

Satin black is a good description. You can adjust sheen of a repaint with/without polish and wax.

And they were painted by the factory, not powder coated.
