I doubt those are made by FF.  I bet they are just a distributor for the UK wheel.

Highly likely indeed.

I'm sure all the brms and other aftermarket wheels weigh the same. The weight is not the reason people buy these wheels. The sort of person who is interested in weight saving when it comes to wheels is running erco's anyway (when they can get them of course! Wink)...or proper gasburners at 3 times the price!

That depends on whether you think Cal-Look is performance formost, or simply the "Look".  ERCO wheels are race car wheels, not really suitable for a true street car where pot holes and curbs are encountered.

The cost of a set of repros plus the cost of a set of ERCOs, plus the extra tires would equal the cost of genuine Mahle wheels.

...which just might crack the first time you hit one of those "pot holes and curbs" that real street cars encounter! I do however see your point, hopefully you also see mine!

I don't think they own Mooneyes; CIP1 is listed as Flat-4's North American distributor; Mooneyes no longer lists any VW parts or wheels and  I can't find a Flat-4 link on their website.

edit: I did find out who bought Mooneyes...Shige Suganuma of Japan did. Does anybody know who owns Flat-4?

I have had erco wheels on my daily driver(only car) for the last 2 years. They are totally able to handle potholes, rail crossings, etc. The "thick" erco wheels are .190 and if im not mistaken centerlines are also .190.

I try to avoid road irregularities as much as possible, but when I have hit potholes the wheels haven't been damaged at all. I suppose after a very long time you would see evidence of damage.

My Cosmics are tanks too. It wouldnt surprise me if they are heavier than 17.5lbs. But that is why Im getting ERCO's (or CMS, or whatever) for race duty.
Maybe the competition will get the prices down- Id love to see a set of 'burners on the lady's 71 Bus. Smiley

Genuine Mahle wheels are very strong.  You don't see as many cracked and welded Mahles as you do real BRMs.  That's because they have 2½ lbs more Mg in them.  The Mahle was designed for a heavier car that went around corners, and had more hp than the car a BRM was designed for.

I do agee there are plenty of car owners that are in it for the "Look" only.  For those, repro Mahles fit the bill.

For all of the "John Force" racers out there, don't buy F-4 or, for that matter, any other wheel that you can't pick up with your pinky....Come on. What's the point here?
