I end up using them on race motors, so they just get locked out (advance mechanism locked solid). They work just fine then.
I have a alternate suggestion.
Get a 40HP Big Cap distributor, remove the vacuum canister and lock the contact plate that the points move on. That way you have a better, cast iron, body with better bushings than the Chinese 009 clones. You also step up from a 60mm cap to a 90 mm cap so you'll get less misfires are 8000rpm.
