I have a mild built 2007cc motor that came with dual webber 44's. Problem is i want some better fuel economy. Can i put smaller dual carbs or a webber progressive carb on that large on an engine and not cause problems? And if i did keep the 44's what kind of fuel consumption could i expect?

A couple of questions...

What is your driving style?
What cam do you have?

What mpg are you getting now? Have you checked the air-fuel ratio? How much more do you want to achieve?

For comparison, I get approx. 24 mpg (mixed highway/street) with my 2110 (48 IDAs with 37 mm vents, Engle K8 cam with 1.4s, 9:1, 40x37.5 heads, 1.5 inch header with a 4.37 R&P tranny with 175 R 15s. This was measured was 135s, so it would register approx. 10%-ish optimistic.

To Scotts point, that's IF I keep my foot out of it.

I use to get 26 MPG when the same engine was a 2007 with 44 IDFs with 32 mm vents, Engle 100, 7.2 CR and MUCH milder 40 x 35.5 heads. SO I ONLY LOST 2 MPG and got A TON more HP. The compression helps regain some of the losses from the increased cam overlap.

Jetting and how you drive it is HUGE.

My 1.5 cents.

I have a 2110 with 44's, K8 cam, 42x37.5 heads, 1.4:1 rockers and CR of 8.2:1 and if I keep my foot out of it I get around 22-25 depending on the driving conditions.

That is with a stock trans with 4.12 ring gear.

I also lost a bunch with the tires and rims I put on it.  17x7 rims with 225/45/17 and 205/40/17.  It went doen from 24-27 MPG.
