Hey guys, Another question on my motor repair. I went ahead and purchased a "Bruck" oil cooler for my doghouse fan shroud. I was really happy with my last one, and it was mangled in the accident. So, I order one for 59.99 on Ebay. Advertised as a "Bruck" brand. I get it yesterday, and it is not a "Bruck" brand at all. It comes in a no-namer box and nothing stamped on the cooler itself. IS THIS IS A CHEAP CHINA KNOCK OFF? I cannot find a "made in China" anywhere. My last Bruck unit seemed to work flawlessly! Just do not want to make a "China Mistake" like I did with the cooler adapter. Thanks

"Bruck of Germany" is not made in Germany. It could be China or some other equally 3rd world location.
I've seen 3 Bruck oil coolers fail in the past few years and would never use one of them.

Marty, Thanks for the help. Yea, Mofocco had it advertised as Bruck. Randy told me to send it back to them for a full refund and shipping both ways. It pissed me off. Just more work for me...

Glenn, So what do you recommend for a cooler then as far as brands go? I do not want a old original used one. The Bruck I had worked great actually.

Setrab from AC.net. Very clean, compact and sturdy design. IMO. AC.net is not the only carrier, just the one I used.

The Setrab is a secondary cooler. I've not had a problem with original coolers that have been ultrasonically cleaned and pressure tested. That's what I have in my 2180.

How about the Type 4 cooler? I put one in my engine and noticed a considerable drop in temps on a long highway run. Minor modification to the shroud is necessary because it's about 5/8" wider.
PS There's different types of T4 coolers, too, with a different "fin per inch" count.
Good Luck!

Thank you Glenn. Hell, I thought using a old used cooler was asking for big problems. IF it can be cleaned out then tested I guess you would be good to go! Glenn, do the original ones have the VW logo on them? Thank you

I bought my doghouse cooler (for my new 2017 build) from CB Performance, they came in a no-name brown box. No issues with the one on my old 1776, which I bought years ago at a local dealer in my old hometown. No leakage or anything after 5K miles (that's the point where I sold the engine to a buddy of mine and he put his doghouse on it, for some reason). My only complaint with the parts (cooler and adapter) from CB is they don't come with gaskets. I would have been screwed if I didn't have a gasket kit on hand, and few things piss me off quite as much as ordering such a small order and getting killed on shipping.

I got a box of stuff from CB Performance today and they tossed a flyer in there with some OEM parts.I noticed a oil cooler, most likey whats used on the late production mexican beetles.I think i'd use one of those if i could'nt find a good german used one.I have a few good ones in my stash from over the years.I have a hose i stick in the one port and run safety klean through them all day long.I do like the type 4 oil cooler mod and use that a lot also.I'm not a big fan of remote oil coolers.

..... what do you recommend for a cooler then as far as brands go? Todd, what did I tell you about stock parts and Pomona? If you must have new, go over to the Samba and look up user "Antonio Trejo". He will sell you genuine VW parts, including the cooler and the adapter bracket.

Last September, I purchased an OEM doghouse style oil cooler from CB Performance. P/N 113-117-021 for $ 72.95 The cooler has a faint VW logo stamped (etched) into it along with a blue colored "1" within a square and the number "13" etched. It is 5-rows and has a grey foam gasket glued along one edge to seal it from the shroud. It feels and looks just like my old one. I also purchased the (2) seals P/N 021-117-151 for $ 1.50 each I'll be installing it on my engine (using the original adaptor) soon. Here is my old one (with a different gasket by me)
