I have been chasing a problem with my 45 DRLA's.
I have a poping in the exshuast when running at a consistant speed.
I have checked the float level and it is between 5.5 and 6.0mm.
My question is this, While cleaning the jets I found the emulsion tubes in one carb like this.

Could this be the problem?
I have a set on -1 emulsion tubes I could solder up the extra holes to replace these.
What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Patrick

I would replace those tubes.

But I think that the popping at a steady speed is most likely a balance issue. That is what I have found with thte dells that I ran. I found that if I overtighten the accelrator cable to get the carb just off the stop and running just above idle and then make sure that the linkage is pulling them ballanced. -- Good luck.

Somewhere in there you lost me, CaveMan.  so you don't let your carbs sit on the throttle stops?  There's no slack in the cable?  or is this like a setup technique, and then you loosen the cable?

I was told to tune with the throttle cable disconected and then hook it up. I was also told my poping in the muffler is usualy a lean Idel condition. it only happens at a constant RPM.

Bought a new set of tubes from CB. they only have the #1 e-tubes now so I have to solder up two holes in each one.
I will post how this works out.when done.

When I ballance the carbs I un hook the linkake all together. Then I hook the linkage up and adjust it with the carbs on the stops to get it even. then I hook up the cable. when you pull the cable with the pedal one side may pull off the stop just before the other. this is hard to see if you are twisting the linkage by hand. to correct that I use a door stop wedge between the tunnel and pedal or slightly overtighten the cable. that is to keep one carb from coming off the stop early. Then readjust the cable so the carbs are on the stops. The linkage will have some play that will be different using the cable because of teh angle of the pull. This was causing my engine to pop fron the exaust. When I corrected the carbs fron one "Leading" the other the popping went away. I dont thing that if it is tuned correctly it should pop from the exaust. Good luck.
