Hi guys, is there a major difference between monitoring CHT and EGT, I would put sensor on #3 spark plug or directly into #3exhaust, will this give similar readings.

EGT gauges are for aircraft usually. Do you have a link to a gauge kit with a price that you are considering? I've never seen one on a VW.

If I'm not mistaken, a pyrometer will tell you EGT....very common on turbo diesels (installed one myself a few months ago).  I would think EGT would be much higher than CHT, but this is just opinion.

I use a EGT to tune my race car, We keep the temp  in a range that the engine likes..

Head temp gauge will do the same thing. I t is a different temp range you need to fine out where your motor likes to run..  Does not matter which gauge you use..
