Hi, As I am gathering my parts together to do the repairs I have purchased a very nice 1965 decklid. I was thinking that I do not want to pop it from the top anymore to clear my linkage and or 48 dells. I want it nice and flush to really show the lines of the car in the back. I am wondering if there is a metal guy in the los angeles that can do some decklid mods?  How about popping it open on the bottom. What does that involve? If you guys have any pics of yours I would love to see what you have done! Thanks.

I had some 48 Dells on my old 63 with Bugpack straight manifolds, CB linkage and i did not need to modify the deck lid.2165 below.It closed all the way fine.That cut on on the sheetmetal was when i had IDA's on it and i trimmed the stacks slightly and it would close up ok too. I don't like the look of propped up at the top and been useing those aluminum lower props like Daniel May used to make.I forget who's selling them now.I have used a tennis ball on the lower latch also. J Dotson, Not sure how your clear and mine does not. My motor is out of my car now. If memory serves me correct, it was more of a linkage issue. However, I run "big beef" manifolds. Maybe that's where the difference is. Hmmmmm

This is my '55 with tall Skat Traks and IDA's. You can't see it in this pic, but we used a billet prop that attaches to the apron latch from Fast Fab. It kicks the decklid out at the bottom (still latches and locks) and gives "just enough" clearance without trimming stacks.

Thanks Gary and elterraplen. I will go with that model for sure if I cannot get it to close after some linkage adjustments! Those fast fab units look great and they are affordable too.

I have a home made stand off at teh bottom. My friend took a nut that would fit on the latch. Welded about an inch and a half bolt part ways into it and put a 2 inch cloth braided breatner hose on that. so it screws onto the latch pivit and the rubber of the hose contacts the aprin. Looks clean and holds the bottom out about 2 inchs. I also had the 2 vents out of a 70 deck lid cut into it and had a later model vent put behind the tag.
The Big Beef manafolds on my 62 makt the 44 idfs hit the deck lid.

Wouldnt having the deck lid popped open at the bottom let hot air from under the car into the engine compartment? Kind of recycling the hot air from the engine. Isnt thats why it has a seal.  Just wondering. Tim

While logically it would seem that propping the decklid at the bottom would be a negative it really works if your engine compartment is starved for air.
In my car the carbs were robbing the available air for the fan with the decklid closed. I propped the decklid open at the bottom with a tennis ball and sure enough the engine head temps and oil temps went down dramatically across the board.
