So I am putting together a new engine for my Notch. I have a few questions. What would you guys recommend I set my compression at with the below specs? Also, is there something I am missing or should be thinking about? I am looking for a smooth running, dependable engine with a little pep!

1679cc
-DPR 69mm CW crank
-DPR rebuilt/ballanced stock rods
-DPR ballanced/resurfaced 12# flywheel
-Mahle machine in 88s
-Deves piston rings
-DRD L3 heads http://www.drdracingheads.com/heads/heads_L3.php
-CB Performance Cheater Cam, #2280 http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1244
-CB Performance 31mm bigfoot lifters
-Case machine work by Brothers VW Machine including bronze lifter sleeves

I will be running the stock dual 32pdsit carbs and a NOS stock exhsaust.

I have my case of Brad Penn 30w break-in oil ready!

Thank you in advance,
Jeff

if you are buying the heads from drd i would speak with darren about what you are looking to accomplish. valve springs and setups should always match cam profiles along with trying to get the cc's in the head right for your compression ratio. to me to most important person to talk with when building a engine is the cylinder head guy.

Those heads are for 90.5mm or larger pistons. They will not work with your 88's.
All the more reason to call.

Sorry, I posted the wrong link for the heads. I have fixed it now.

Does anyone see a problem with using the 31mm lifters with the cheater cam?

Compression setting talk to Darren as he most likely pre-set up your CC volume/compression for you based off your deck height. For lifter to cam compatibility I would talk to CB. But that's a lot of lifter head for a small cheater cam!  Is the cam ground on a small base circle?  Or is it like a VZ grind with a lot of lift built in the cam?  I look at it as unwanted weight in the valve train. But if the cam needs it, then run it!

I say the heads will work but the cam might not so like the other guy said and call DRD and ask. I would think a little more lift on the cam.
