I am planning on taking my 63 street car to the track to test/tune in march to the Silverdollar race that SEVWA puts on. Got a good friend of mine wanting to have kind of a grudge race against each other. Anyway, I can't lose. Haha! I am planning on ordering me a pair of M&H DOTs to run on my car. I just have one concern. My tranny. I have a 4.12 R&P, super beetle mainshaft, super diff, HD side plate, HD axles, 1.37 3rd stock 4th, 3rd and 4th are welded.
Anyway I am a little concerned about my little mainshaft and 4.12 breaking. I was just wondering if there is a decent clutch disc out there that slips a little on engagement to help reduce some stress on my tranny? I currently have a stage 1 clutch with a stock solid center disk? I have never really noticed it slipping any. Any other options. Engine is a pumpgas 2332 that makes 165.6hp to the wheels.
Tranny is solid mounted front and rear, strapped in the middle over the top and running a homemade thick wall traction bar under the engine.
Would you change the disk or run what I have?

I had a similar combo; 2332 cc 169 WHP, M&H's and 4.125 Rancho tranny. Race many times in the 1/4-mile without issue, with a Berg-Centerforce dual friction disc. It's a great dual purpose disc. I sold that 4.125 tranny, as I wanted a closer 4th gear, but never had any troubles with it.
I now have the same disc with a KEP Stage 2 in my 180 WHP 2332 cc and 3.875 Rancho tranny. Over 250 races later, I'm still on the same clutch and no tranny problems...I do have SAW race axles though.

I agree. You should be fine. Give it hell....
I run over 250hp thru a superbeetle mainshaft (with 091 idler).
Lots of 1/4mi passes and many street miles.
Clutch sounds about right to me.
