I cheaped out on this 1600 im building and bought one of these wanna be full flow oil pumps with the in and out on the pump cover.  There were two kinds- One for a dished cam and one for flat.  I put the gears in the case and clearanced the pump to the housing with now gasket to .004- Fine  Then once i go to bolt the cover on the motor tightens up.  Im running a stock cam with the stock rivited gear.  Is there a way to fit the pump i have to cam i have or do i have to buy the other style?  Also can i buy just a set of oil pump gears or do i need to swap out the entire housing and everything?  Thanks

scott, i am assuming that with the pump out of the motor and you put on teh cover it spins fine.. if that is true then do you think putting a gasket or two between the pump and the case to push teh pump out would cure that? or would that even do anything?

they have used those pumps up here on teh mini stocks for years and they seem to work pretty good.

btw, is it a mag case or alum case?

The bolts you are using to mount the pump may be too long and are hitting the cam

Or perhaps take out the cam bolts one at a time an grind the heads down to make them thinner as well as a quick buff off the back of the pump housing where you likely will see the evidence of the bolt heads hitting. wayne

its definately not long bolts- i used the suplied hardware that came with the pump and there are no cam bolts- Its a stock riveted cam.  I can see exactly where it is rubbing on the oil pump cover.  The oil pimp drive gear is bottoming out on the cam- I think i have the wrong pump- Im trying ot figure out if i can modify it by hand or if i have to buy the different style?

i wonder how much of a difference in depth between the two as well.  I figured it would be enough to be extreamly noticable; been awhile since i looked at a dished cam.

i think i have one for a dished cam and I have a flat cam- wouldnt that make sense. If i had one for a flat cam and the cam was dished it wouldnt the drive gear be too short?

It sounds like you have a late model pump with an early cam. Since the gear is keyed, you can usually press the shaft deeper into the gear to fix the problem.
