These heads are 40x35. Do ya think they would work ok on a 1600 with an engle-100 cam. thanx for all replies.

Those heads have bigger valves but ports are stock diameter so you really don't gain a lot unless your going to port them out. There is a really big step in the ports where the machine work stops and the stock port begins. For that size motor I would either port a set of stock valve heads, they really work pretty good on a small motor. The other option is if you don't want to do any port work get a set of 041 heads. The ports are cast bigger in the 041's. CB sells a set that has stainless valves, good springs, and moly retainers and they sell for about the same price as the Los Banditos heads. If you don't plan on running anything bigger than a stock carb you won't see that much gain in the heads. If you are just starting to build this motor I'd put in a set of 87 P&C and make it a 1641.

From experience on a pretty mild 1600 i would stay with stock valves that come with 040 heads and just port them out to flow better. My friend for example has a 1641 with duel 40mm Kdogs stock heads an engle 100 cam and an extractor exhaust. We rebuilt the heads with a valve grind and new single HD springs and i opened up the ports quite considerably without hogging into the guides. With the heads back on he noticed a considerable increase in overall torque and mid to top end power. I think if we had gone bigger on the valves we would have lost a considerable amount of low rpm air speed. Its worth the larger valves if you have a larger capacity engine with a higher comp and a better induction and exhaust system.
