My transmission is getting a fresh rebuild and I would like to put a bigger cam in my engine while my Daily Driver 65 bug is down. Current engine specs:

1776,AS-41, fullflow, CW crank, stock rods, MAHLE 90.5s, engle w110 cam w/1.25 rockers, AJ Sims 041 heads, 40 x 35.5 valves(no port/polish), dual springs, chromoly retainers, 53cc, 8.0:1 comp., chromoly pushrods, unsure what lifters but they will be replaced, and 40 Dellortos.

I would like to put in a bigger cam that will raise the compression to around 8.5-9.0. Possibly a FK-8? Has anyone had success with a combo like this(FK-8 1776 DD) or with another cam similar. I have bested a 15.7 @ 82 in a 1900 pound(w/driver)65bug on 165s. I would like to see 14s with a cam change.  Cool

My tans is also gettin a 4.12 RP from a previous 4.37 and 3rd & fourth will be closer than before so hopefully that will shave some time as well. What cam and lifters do you reccomend?

It's a waste of time with unported heads. I, personally, think the K8 is too big for a 1776, too.
P&P the heads, run a 120 (you can add 1.25 rockers later if you want) and keep CR around 8.5:1.
Or better yet....add some 94's while you have it apart doint the above work.

full port non welded 40x35 heads and 10 to 1 comp and E125 cam with 1.25s  on a 1776 and 48s and tight gears with DOTs should go 13s with practice.

That sounds like a nice engine combo for a daily driver. You need to upgrade the whole engine combo if you want more out of it.

I'm contemplating pulling the heads and doing a mild port job, but I dont want to wreck these heads. IDK, I'll probably leave it the way it is for now. After all, that combo I have is awesome!

Change the crank to a bigger one, and leave everything else the same.  That'll do the trick.

What kind of exhaust are you running?

I would send your heads out to get ported and have your manifolds match ported and tell your head porter what you need for cc's to run 9:1-run a tight deck and run the 120 or 125 cam with your 1.25 rockers.  A reputable head porter will not wreck your heads they will improve them drastically-plus you can get a good valve job while they are at it and set up your springs for the right coil bind.

Definately get those heads ported and talk to your head porter about cam, compression ratio etc..

At this stage, it look like its about the money you have to spend....
Fair enough, Fact : you definitely won't knock off over a second with just a cam change.

When you can afford it, a bigger crank, as mentioned above will make a huge difference, lovely accelerative torque, no need to port heads, no need to rev like a b*stard.
When you get to that stage, plus a bit more money, then ported heads, then cam change, 120, 125 or fk8, then you will knock a few seconds off your e.t.!
                            Good luck!

I appreciate all the kind replys. I discussed it with my head porter/engine/trans builder and the 1776 will be left alone to be a back-up motor. I would rather the time and money go into the new engine than the reliable, already-built engine. I'll settle for 15 second timeslips. FOR NOW! MMMWWWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA Tongue Cheesy
