I don't make it to as many events as some guys, but that was the best Pro Mod final I've seen in a while.  Great job to both you and the Red Baron!!  I hated to see Madsen break, but I'm so glad you pulled it out in that race so that we could see the final between a couple killer cars.  I think that's the first time I've seen you do a good 1/4 mile pass...very impressive.

Congrats to Jim G. as well...winner of Quick 8...and thanks for the killer beans!

Thanks to all you Racers that showed up and braved the Heat in Famoso. My Crew and I had a great time and will be supporting Clyde if He decides to do it agian next year. Maybe We can get a date that won't be quite as Hot and some more Vendors and Spectators out there. Also thanks to all that stopped by our Booth and checked out our Products and maybe spent a few bucks or just let us know how you liked our stuff.
Hey Mike, thanks for letting us have the chance of installing My OTS ( off the shelf ) engine in your Ghia, it was great to see that it was able to indure your driving skills and the new track surface as well as the extreme heat. I can't wait to tear it down and see how it looks inside. Get Me your list of needs as soon as you can so We can get your engine back together and ready for next time.
Congrats Pat! Great job out there!
one last thing, let Me know,Muffler Mike when you see what happened to your valve train on that last pass and if I can help you in anyway.
See you all at the next event!

I hope there will be a next year event too. Great track and layout, tons of pit parking. Just too humid, but I will go again.

that was the best Pro Mod final I've seen in a while.

Pat's  Fiat is comming around now, he will be low 9's soon
This was one of the better Pro Mod races lately, four very well done cars in the race.
Eric Madsons engine sounded so wicked, that Paradise power!
Don Browns Pro Stock bug looking sweet in Pro Mod.
Eric Calabrese, Red Baron still at the top.

Between Mike Sheldon and me, I took him out at the last two finals in S/C. Well it was his turn to take me out in the 1/4 final at Famoso.
Super Comp is getting very tuff and the numbers speak for it. Margin of victory for Mike was .0038

In Vegas 05 my margin of victory between Mike was .0067
In SAC 06 my margin of victory between Rob Meyer was .009, with Mike it was .023

My reaction times are kicking butt for a heavy car, here is what I came up with for the last three S/C races:
Vegas 05 R/T's: .029, .076, average of (.052)
SAC 06 R/T's: .068, .027, .074, average of (.056)
Famoso 06 R/T's: .028, .053, .068, .049, average of (.049)

Congrats to Pat Downs for winning S/C. Your bug scoots like a 9.90 car Smiley the first 1/8 mile, must be one hell of a throttle stop Smiley

Well...I had a "not so good" day yesterday... Roll Eyes One good thing is that I think I figured out the method to qualifying for S/G... Grin . My car was running great for a test run and two qualifying passes. I actually was able to qualify #9 with a 12.02 et...but I got greedy...  Undecided . I had been running 17 pounds of tire pressure during the first two qualifying passes which gave me a little spin off the line so on my third qualifying pass I decided to drop a few pounds of pressure...SNAP!!! There goes the ring/pinion (I hope that's all it is  Huh). Well...since I was sidelined I actually had a great time being able to watch the rest of the day pan out for everybody. Now...here goes the nightmare...on my way back home, I watched as my temp gage on my truck slowly rise while climbing the grapevine...well, I guess I must have lost the water pump because I tried putting my heater on and it wasn't even pumping heat into the heater coil...I made it as far as the Newhall pass just before Magic Mountain...then the the radiator let loose!!! Cracked right at one of the hose fittings...well, I am very fortunate to have a great girlfriend who came out at 2:30 in the morning to tow my trailer back home...while I waited for AAA to bring a flatbed. I finally pulled into my driveway at 4:30 in the morning...so, I've been wrenching on the truck all day and more then $500.00 later Shocked (new radiator, water pump, fan clutch, and thermostat), she's back on the road...Now. all I have to do is get my car/trailer back home so I could take the trans to Ray Medrano for him to disect it...I'm TIRED!!!

Temp was 93 degrees at midnight at the host hotel.

Congrats to reigning NASA Champ Greg Schmidt who won Super Gas against the most accomplished group of VW racers to be found anywhere.  I'm sure he will thank the fine folks at M&H for the pair of slicks he won in the addition to the other class prizes. Greg seems to be winning everything in sight these days!
That S/G class is not only highly contested but also made up of the friendliest group of people. They are hardcore and really put on a contest for the fans.

Thanks to Joel Mohr and Clyde Berg for putting on a fine event. I know the next Drag-In will be even better.

HOLY CRAP it was hot! We arrived at about 3:00pm, stepped out of Doug's air-conditioned Expedition and damn near burst into flames. Im not exactly sure what the temp was, but when its that friggin' hot, who cares. Surface temp in the staging lanes, at one point in the day, reached 155!!

Congrats Andrew "2stroke" Foldhazi, who went 10.40  Shocked in his street car  .........even in the blazing hot Bakersfield heat..........before he broke yet another axle on the burnout.

Congrats to all the racers & class winners, you guys are some die-hards! I was melting just standing in the sun, I KNOW you guys were totally cookin' in those cars, fire jackets, and helmets. Yikes.

Pat, you gave the Baron a RUN man! That was an awesome P/M final! Congrats to both you guys!

Oh, and Justin (the announcer), thanks for sharing your table at Denny's this morning, it was really cool to finally "meet" you and get to know ya a bit. Hope you had a good flight!

Great show, despite the heat--- we'll be back next year, but we'll be racin'.  Wink

The Drag In rocked! I just got back and I'll get some pics up later - I got over 70. It was a little hot out there, but at least the humidity wasn't bad. Man that was fun though. It was cool meeting some of you guys out there.

Seeing Pat's Fiat against the Red Baron in the P/M final was awesome. What a race! The Red Baron took the win with a 9.02 to Pat’s 9.4x (I think). Side by side low 9's!

Pat Downs won S/C when Muffler Mike broke. The Quick and Dirty car won S/M. Troy Palmer lost to the silver Ghia in S/G. The Palmer's car is killer.

2stroke was there with his street car. That thing is too cool. He ran a 10.4x on one pass. I think he broke later in the day though.

A lot of great races. Turbo Bob vs Muffler Mike in S/C with both cars side by side to the finish line with ETs separated by only 5 hundredths of a second. Mike took the win but Bob pulled a really nice wheelie.

The only thing that sucked was seeing the Fisher Buggies new beetle flip. That car was insane. He nearly graced the center wall on the burnout. About half track he lost control and rolled.

In qualifying, the silver S/C car (Rich Dickson?) ran a perfect 10.90. Lot's of nice cars out there: the Lawless Ghia, a brownish street bug with dual quiet packs, a really ugly street car that HAULED a$$ on street tires, and a ton of killer race cars. Pat Down's car is like a Pro Stock, that thing was hitting hard and you could hear him letting out at the top end to slow down enough to run the 10.90 index. The Esrini's had the watercooled dragster out too but I think they were having a few problems (?). They stilled layed down some killer 8 second passes.

Thanks for putting on the show and showing up to race despite the heat. That was the first time I've been to a PRA event and it was awesome.

When I grow up i wanna be like Pat! Man he is just tearin it up in the Fiat.... Awesome car! Great talking to you last night and that was hands down the best race I have seen in Pro-Mod This year.

Andrew your car is just Nasty! Stop the Axel breakage and your gonna do damn well in that car.

Props to Fischer buggies on building a completely off the CHAIN car and VW Paradise for hookin it up.... And also My condolences on the crash. Hopefully we will get to see it run here on the left coast again after it gets repaired.

Now the "Thanks for takeing the time out of your hectic days to talk to the new guy noone knows" awards go to .... Drum Roll..... Jason Lauffer who was kind enough to spend a few minutes with me in the middle of working on another bug, and Justin for inviteing us to sit at his table for Breakfast this morning so that we wouldn't have to wait longer to eat.

Good event and I sure hope my car is done next year so I can actually line up with a few of you guys.

Last on the list is to Thank Carl's Junior Employee Heather for hookin us up with directions to DelTaco and treating the drunk guys the way we think we deserve to be treated while intoxicated!

Rob

PS- The new company spin off Rumor out of the Geers camp is bogus .... There will NOT be a 3rd Gears Raceing!

Well, not quite a roll, thank God. The car fishtailed and went up on the passenger side, but stayed there and slid a loooooooong way before finally comming to a stop. It never went on its lid. The damage appears to be limited to the paint and body, but unfortunately, that body is a one-off carbon fiber shell that was (as I understand) in the neighborhood of $40,000. And Im sure the paint job cost could build me a new turbo motor. Ken is fine, no injuries other than his broken heart. Remember, this car was on its SECOND shake-down after having just left Lauffer's place the day before.

Ken assured us the car will be back, its getting fixed asap.

Rick, Let me say thanks to you guys at CB for supporting this "first time" effort by Clyde and Joel.  And I hope after all is considered that you all feel you can do it again next year.

Some, possible "constructive" suggestions from one S/G competitor,

I really like the Famosa track and staff.  It makes me feel secure about track safety when towing down the return road every run that no matter how hot it got in the afternoon the track fire crew was ready for any incident and dressed in their nomex.  Heck, even the ambulance crew had their "engine running" each round.  Not a laughing matter after one of our S/G guys crashed at Sacramento last year and the ambulance had a dead battery and then in trying to cut the roll cage off the saw-z-all batteries were dead!  Famosa Raceway busted their butts to get their new surface ready for our event.

I agree if there were a way to schedule this event earlier in the year for cooler temperatures it could really help the attendence.  The idea of "night racing" is really neat, but I would think the promoter also needs his event to draw more attendance with a larger swap meet and show and shine car show which really need to be done during the daytime.

Thanks for doing whatever you could to help Mike and Cindy to get their car back together for the competition after their set back.  It's the close racing and "friendly rivalry" that makes the S/G class so much fun.

The Palmer's are looking forward to this event next year.

That is one of the best parts about running there. You just know that if things go wrong, you are in good hands. A lot of other tracks should take some notes from these guys.
