On the way back from crusing last night noticed there was a noise coming under/Back of my bug,the noise would only be there if i gave more gas, foot off the gass then the noise would go.
Anyways,it got worse and worse so when i got home jacked the car up and then soon found out that there was oil running out of a 5 cm gash in the axel boot/gaitor.
I am just worried if i have run the transmission empty for oil and that the transmission is dry hence the strange noise under giving some gas..anyone help with this??

How much metal is on the drain plug? If it's just a little "fuzz" you might be OK, if there is quite a lot you might have a problem. If a trans has been run low on oil the mainshaft bearing behind 4th gear doesn't get any lube and starts to make noise.

no metal,it was about half full in the transmission box!
