Actually it's a Speedster kit, on a 1970 bug pan. Somebody has already put on a solid disc setup, from a Ghia? I'm going for a lot of cool factor, and some use, as I autoX the car a little. I have Chrome wheels and Porsche nipple hubcaps. I think I'd like to keep that setup. They are 4 lug . Is there a kit that easily mounts 944 brakes to my Type 1? Thanks... Nice site guys.

I  think the best setups come from http://vdubengineering.com/  this assumes you will use porsche pattern wheels. If you want to use VW 4 stud, CSP vented disks and porsche calipers could be made to work with adapters. You will need to upgrade your rear brakes as well or the balance will be completely out (944 brakes are an easy fit on the rear)
I've gone the porsche pattern wheels way.

That's helpful. I wonder if anybody makes Porsche pattern wheels like my chrome wheels that are in it? I definitely want to keep that "stock look"

You cannot use original front 944 brakes with 4 lug wheels.
There is no way to re-drill for the 4 lug pattern.
You have to use a different setup.
If your car is light, then the Ghia brake setup will work really well.
If you want better, then upgrade the calipers or go an altogether different direction.

IMO a Lightweight Speedster shouldn't need much in the braking department.

I have '74 Ghia front brakes (stock pads) and rear CB kit which uses Golf calipers and 914 rotors (stock pads there too).  Impressive braking with a full-body Beetle.

use late model "space saver" steel rims. They have the slots like the original speedster but with the newer porsche pattern. They look more race without the cap.

Just antother thought. I am using a Kerscher vented disk brake kit on the front end of my 70 bug and a CB rear disk brake kit on the rear.
A very well balanced set up and cool factor. Cross drill the rotors and paint detail the calipers red and you have a great combo.
With the Kerscher kit you can add an up grade to willwood calipers if needed but this is over kill on a kit like yours or even a bug for that matter.
These Kerscher kits are also TUV approved.
