I've recently concluded that 1/4 mile times and golf handicaps have a lot in common.   It seems like every recreational golfer (amatuer hack) you ask "so what do ya swing..", reply with "well..usually in the eighties".   This "bracket", if you will, is reserved for LESS THAN 10% of the golfers in America as determined by the USGF.  I MUST KNOW EVERY SINGLE PERSON WITHIN THAT 10% BRACKET  Wink.
My point being, 90% of those asked will put themselves in this bracket Huh.

I think 1/4 mile ETs are the same.  When asked (those with seemingly fast street cars) what times they're pullin' they'll usually respond somewhere in the 11's.  And occassionally you'll get someone bold enough to say "in the 10's...".   I think they're full of Poo Poo.

I know there are a few of you guys and other out there that actually pull these times.  But, I'd bet it's a very small percentage.  I've come to this conclusion after the first few season opener visits to our local strip, watching run after run after run.  I'd say 10% fall into this bracket at best.

True street VW's in the 11's are actually quite rare, so figure 1 in 10 guys who say it are actually telling the truth--- either about their ET or about their car being "street".

well i might just fall into this bracket.... i am a 2 handicap golfer, hard to be scratch playing only once a week, and my street driven turbo manx did a 9.96(25 lbs and c16), it also ran in the mid 11s at 118 with pump gas and 10 lbs of boost, some people feel they have to lie to make friends..not me Wink

I guess I was in the "naturally aspirated" frame of mind when I said what I said. With a solid turbo motor, I guess it wouldnt be quite so hard to put a true streeter in the 11's. Still a challenge, but totally doable.

When I go to Test and tune, and say there is street 100 cars, only 4 or 5 will be in the 11's and 1 or 2 in the 10's.  maybe 15-20 in the 12's.

Most are in 13-14's and a lot in the 15-16 ( Honda's)

After my first trip down the track and 1/4 mile times in the low 14's, I was amazed that the car wasn't faster. I just KNEW that I had a low 13 or 12 second car. I've done some changes since then, but it takes large cubic dollars just to get a few tenths. Most people have no idea just how fast even a 13.99 car really is.
Like James said, most of the people that "talk the talk" are stuck in the 15's and 16's. Most, but not all...

Just from my own time slips, I can say that it's nearly impossible to take an educated guess. Last year my 60's were around 1.9x, 1/4 approx 85mph @ 14.5 sec.

I have 3 examples from my only trip this year. (60', 1/4 mph, & 1/4 time)

1.962
95.34
13.6

1.872
94.74
13.594

1.787
95.34
13.35

The 60 times are all over the board due to a line lock malfunction (could get a good burn). I also think that I was jetted a little lean because the car was cutting out at 6200 rpm instead of 7500 (where the rev limiter is set).

O and I agree with James. Most cars seem to be in the 13's & 14's with the exception of the Honduh's which are high 14 with NAAWWWSS and 15s & up.

Alot of guy's out there who clame to be street car's aren't really STREET CARS.  For example: My car has head light's and tail light's "it's a street car" NO you only have one seat and your car is all hacked up!!  My opinion is this if your car has full interior and "you run your car" with full interior on Radial's whatever the sized or PSI you prefer and your in the low 12's High 11's and your runnig some CARBS "that is a BADA$$".
I don't even consider my car to be Quote un Qoute "A REAL STREET CAR" I have a 2332 engine at 12-1 compression with full interior on street radials.  Why don't I consider it a real street car Huh  Because  I don't run it on pump gas!!!  "Just my 4 cent's" Wink

You can debate what a real street car is till you turn green.

If your trying to achieve the best ET's as possible I dont understand why you would want to keep a full interior and radials. I guess to make a point that the cars been down the track in full street trim. I was doing mid 12's with full interior but on slicks. Mind you my intake port volume was around the same size as CB's round port CNC's so that was when my heads were truly tuned for the street.

Under hard acceleration in 2nd gear I can break loose and virtually go sideways with my street radials. My yokohama's are 225/50/16 so I do have a big footprint too. I'd be slow in the 1/4 with radials IMO.

http://members.shaw.ca/vdubstuff/11sec_run.htm

Not bad for 9.4:1 c/r and 92 octane.

Currently I'm only driving this car aprox 3 times a week as a commuter to work Wink

Some truth there....

The slower your car is the faster you are on the bench...... I was waiting for all of the 10 and 11 second NEONs, SUBIs, and HONDAs to show up at the track on friday, but it seems the 14 second full race cars showed up instead....

As far as street cars go, there is a diff between daily street cars and weekend street cars.... Usualy the weekend car is for the guy like me that can't pull a 32ft trailer or a 16ft dump trailer with a 7,000 lb Skid steer Loader on it....

I'm getting a headliner and putting the backseat back in my car just so I can say I got full interior( and be on the top 20 if I ever go that fast Sad).

Some quick math says I'll run still 12.9 with an extra 60 pounds. so I don't see how missing interior parts make that big of deal.  ( might even be faster, the back seat may increase traction)

Pcarney.....certainly aint jealous, I love seeing the faster street cars, I think they're great.   On the contrary, I think I know the amount of work it takes to get down with the ETs.  More than most are willing/capable of doing, including myself.  I'll be happy running consistent high 12s when my Notch is done.  But, from the response to this thread it seems I'm not the only one noticing that most car/drivers dont run quite what they think.

Concerning the "street car" issue...that's been beat to death on other threads.....I guess I was talkin' weekend street cars, not necessarily daily drivers.  Our commute to our strip is 50 miles each way.  Certainly not talkin' about trailering anything, anywhere.  Dont own one, but I will carry a tow bar, just in case  Wink.

Konaturbo....I only wish I could swing with your handicap.  I dont know what would be harder..getting my car into the 11s, or carving my handicap to a 10 much less a 2 like yourself.   That's smokin'.

This is too funny...I myself have two addictions in life and golf is the other one.  I'm just on the outside of the 10% in both areas.  I run an all motor 2276 (62bug) drive it 30 miles to the track lay down 12 teens @ 109 and drive home.  As for the golf I normally shoot 92-94.  I do plan on getting both into that 10% area this year, but this takes time and money!!!!  I should have picked less expensive hobbies!!!

Best so far has been an 11.76 @ 112 mph naturally asperated. A bigger cam and a bit more compression is going into it right now so we'll see what we can get out of it this year......

Oh yea, and i'm almost a mile high up here. None of that sweet sea level air to play with around here. Everyone complains about the air "up in Vegas", i'm looking forward to going "down there" so I can shoot for a ten! LOL.

It's been my experience that the people that talk about how fast they are don't spend nearly the same amount on broken parts a true 12 second "street" car driver spends.  It's a lot cheaper to claim your Honda on NAAAWs goes 12s than to actually do it.  Besides, that NAAAWs bottle makes a far better sub-woofer than actually adding power.  As far as how that relates to golf, is swinging in the 80s like a hole in one??

nah, swinging in the 80s means you have an 18 or less handicap.  and unless golf comes natural to you, or you are on the course A LOT, you usually have more than an 18 if you count every shot.

i have tee'd up with many 10< handicappers only to find out that they take mulligans, use the footwedge, don't count lost balls or those extra 'practice' swings that don't make contact iwth the ball.

equate it to guess that use hidden power adders and then say they don't.

I have my bug for 30+ yrs and it does a 12.90 all metal full street and bin doing it for 20yrs and same combo just rebuilt a few times and got over 100,000mls on the same combo and I don't have to make it up either. On Maui a all day cruise is maybe 100mls and 10 stops so 12sec bugs is no problem. Anyway I going to Kona the 1st week of Oct for our reunion and take my junior golfer son to Nanea to golf and hope to see Konaturbo manx in the parking lot. My son bops a 90 on 18 holes mens and he is 10yrs and we going to south point Kalae to golf and visit family in Kukuiopae valley Ka'u district and hope to see some fast bugs there also.

All this is a wrap to what your hobby is!!

I've shot under par on a 7100 yd 18 hole course. Thats definetly pass tense !! I've also run 12.20's and that is also pass tense. I believe with my age and my choice of hobbies that I will improve my 1/4 mile time a lot more and probably never improve my golf score or handicap!

Have not picked up a club in 2 1/2 years and dare say that I would have a hard time breaking 90 , but can get in my car and drive the 15 miles to the track and throw down a mid 12 second run. That is not a 11 second run but is definetly a full bodied , full interior car!!!

As long as you enjoy what you are doing go for it and it doesnt matter what others say or think!
