Is anybody still advocating / running two thrust bearings for the cam?   Undecided

This, of course, implies that one must buy two sets of cam bearings to reap the reward of having that additional thrust surface...I'm not even sure if it's worth it (mild 1904 with single springs).

Thanks!

Dohhh!  Yer right...I just found them on CB's Website.  You know, back in the day, there was no tang to lock in the journal, so it was a mystery as to whether they would spin.

But the pic on CB's site almost looks as if one (or both?) of them has a tang.

Do you know if the thrust bearings have tangs now?  This is my first build in over 7 years.

Cheers!

I have only seen one set where only one bearing had a tang and that set was given to me. The Mahle bearings have the tang on both. You can either file a tang grove into the case or file the tang off of one of the bearing. also check the fit of the bearing on the cam too. I have seen some fit tight. Make sure that there is some clearance. If you have to you can file the thrust surface of the bearing to gain a couple of thousands of clearance.

I only install dual thrust bearings if the customer is using a helical (stock style) cam gear.
If they are using straight cuts, then no need for dual thrust.

I haven't seen a problem with singles, but hey if it costs the same why not? I wouldn't buy 2 sets of bearings to do it though.

Right.  Well, back in the day (80's and 90's), we did have to buy two sets.  But heck, now, not only do they come with two in the pack, but they actually have tangs.

If I had paid attention to the CB ad, I wouldn't have made this post to begin with, but that's what happens when I drift in and out of the scene for years at a time.
